[Saturday, July 26] Guinness World Record
Great Food & Other Sites...
For those going to the GWR500(1,000?) this weekend in Lanexa, there is some great Burgers, Chicken, Ribs, and awesome BBQ in Lightfoot, VA... (about 12 miles down the road), at Pierce's Pit BBQ.
http://www.pierces.com/
Whenever I drive along rt 64, I always stop there to eat... and bring a few pounds of BBQ back home in a cooler to keep me going for a while.
In fact, a number of years ago, Pierce's won first place in the Washingtonian Magazine as the Best BBQ in the Washington area!
And... while you're in the area, I have to say that you can spend a whole day at the Pottery Factory, also right down the road.

What's everyone doing for this ? Anyone looking to convoy ? Leona and I are thinking to spend the night and come home Sunday.
I wasn't sure I could make it due to work but our demo has been pushed into September
between being sick and out flying for work I have not had much time to read NAM and keep up with things.

Latest event info...
I'd love to convoy down but I've got to pick up my navigator at Villanova U Friday afternoon, and will be driving down to Lanexa from there.
Last year DCMM did a lot of work for the event... made the window clings, KURT/KRUT did the MC-ing, and much more. I haven't heard much about this year.
In addition to the actual record attempt in the afternoon, the bands playing from 3:30 til midnight, here is some info on the latest planned MINI events (pulled from other sources)...
The Oscar Meyer MINI Cooper Weiner mobile will be at this event.
Here are the details about the events that we will hold at the GWR500! (Guinness World Record/Navy Seals benefit)
1: Roadkill Roundup! That sounds sick as hell, doesn't it?
Ok, so it's not really roadkill. We will be using stuffed animals. This is a LOW SPEED team event. You will need a passenger for this event! If you are coming to the event alone you can team up with a friend. “I don't have a friend at the event” isn't a valid excuse! We are the Mini Cooper community! Everyone is a friend!
The gist of this event is that you will drive along a course and your passenger will attempt to scoop up the stuffed animals with a lacrosse net/net-on-a-stick thing. Don't worry, we're going to cover the stick part of the net-on-a-stick thing with foam so there will be little to no chance of damage to anyone's car.
If you stop or backup on the course, you will be disqualified! The team that gets the most stuffed critters wins a prize!
2: Blind Autocross Yep, you read that one right too! Blind Autocross! This is a LOW SPEED team event. You will need a passenger for this event! The driver will be blindfolded and the passenger will give verbal instructions to get through the course. I know this sounds dangerous but the only thing that you could hit out there will be cones.
Each cone is a 2 second penalty.
"Off Course" will disqualify you.
Stopping on the course will disqualify you.
3: Radio Control Mini Autocross Can you see a theme here? Can you tell what I've become addicted to?
This one is pretty easy. We race for best time on an autocross course but we use styrofoam cups for cones since I have no idea where to find tiny cones.
There will probably be more events scheduled and if any of you would like to put something together or if you have an idea for an event, please post it here! Thanks!
4: Car Show! Bring your pail of detailing products and obsess err... um... make that Mini shine!
The Kid's Zone will be open and running. The tenative list of activities is...
1: Dunk tank
2: Super Slide (we might have super slide races just for grins)
3: Inflatable kid's attractions like bouncy room or whatever they are called.
This year we will again be honored by the presence of Rudy Boesch, one of the very first Navy Seals. Most of us know him from the first season of Survivor. Rudy retired from the Navy after 45 years of continuous service in 1990. I had the privilege of meeting him at last year's event and he's one helluva character!

We're staying at the Hampton Inn on Richmond Road in Williamsburg. I'm not sure what we're doing on Sunday, maybe checking out Colonial Williamsburg.

I'll be driving down to Lanexa from the Charlottesville/Harrisonburg, Va area Saturday morning and heading back to Cville/Hburg area sometime on Sunday.
I'm thinking to go 301 to 95, a little less brutal than 95 the whole way but you gotta watch for the LEOS.
Still up in the air on lodging, Hampton is quite a bit more $$$ than Ramada, is the Ramada that bad ?

Soooo....it starts at 9AM but the parade begins at 2PM? We will make an effort to be there, but will have to leave early to pick up a family member at Norfolk Airport. We will definately make the parade lap though. Wish there was a "real" autocross event scheduled too! Should we bring our helmets?
RSVPing!!!
Penny and Decker will both be there this weekend, representing the HOs! Stop by and say "hi", take a peek inside, and if you're interested in having a HO of your very own, please ask Shaun or me (Megan) for contact info! We'd love Decker to go to a very special, MINI-loving home.
We'll see you there!

I'm a single man for cryin' out loud!
We kind of laid off the autocross for a while because of lack of time, and of course, the cost of tires! Until I can buy some cheap rims and tires to put on just for that, I will have to lay off that pleasure but I plan to do it again in the future.

It was a lot of fun though! I took quite a few pics but i'm not home yet. Hopefully i can post some later on tonight. Hypnohealer- you're correct, as far as i know, there were 114 cars total.
And two DCMMer's won the raffle! Laura won something (Aesthetic Creations gift cert, maybe) and I won a DP starter kit! =)

A few shots from the event (if I can get this to work).
The Wienermobile, a shot of the parade through the campgrounds, and Rudy Boesah from the 1st episode of Survivor:
(the guy in the kilt is Randy, one of the event organizers and a great guy).

And a few more...
A local guy from the campground with his favorite hat holding the infamous Wiener whistle, same guy with another hat blowing on a Wiener whistle (don't ask), and some of the DCMM crew in the shade (Gawd, it was HOT!)
