WDCR SCCA Autocross sign up!

Sorry this is really short notice, but if anyone wants to sign up for the SCCA autocross on Sunday April 20th at FedEx field registration starts today, April 13th, at 8 PM. The events usually fill up quickly, so I would try to register as close to 8 PM as possible.

To do so, you will need to create an account at www.dlbracing.com and sign up through that website (search the calendar by the club "Washington D.C. Region SCCA" and event "Autocross All"). Additional information is available at solo.wdcr-scca.org.

If you can't make the event on the 20th, the next event will be on Sunday May 4th. Sign up for that race starts Sunday April 27th at 8 PM sharp!

If you have a base Cooper, H Stock is really fun this year with a lot of competition and great people. For you "S" folks, G Stock really needs you! There were only 1 or 2 Cooper S's at the first event. See you there!

if you changed the pulley then you in the SM class. This class is pretty much open and you can be up against alot of things including the Twin Charged MINI's , Vtec Classics, Fulley hopped up EVO's .. etc

If you left the engine alone and only done Suspension and Appearence mods. Then your in STX class if running street tires and DSP if running Race Rubber.

If Pure stock then its GS no matter what tires you are running.

Is it true that if I have JCW then I'm automatically in SM class?

If not, then what if I only replaced the air intake filter and ignition wires?

If that's all you have, depending on whether you have a Cooper or Cooper S, you could have lots of fun in one of the Street Touring classes. A base Cooper would be in STS, while the Cooper S is in STX. Nice thing about that is that you'd wouldn't have to buy R-compound tires to be competitive.

If you have an '06+ JCW "package" you'd be in B Stock. An air filter and ignition wires wouldn't move you out of a class. But, If you've done any other modifications to it, you'd probably be in D Street Prepared. Also, if you added the JCW kit aftermarket when it wasn't available as a factory installed option or installed only bits and pieces of the package, chances are you'd go straight to SM.

In the DC region, your main threat in SM would be a 1981 Scirocco and the occasional Evo or CIVIC. There used to be a pair of BMW M Coupes (Z3 based) that were extremely fast, but they don't seem to be running this year.

For really detailed info, see the 2008 National Solo II rule book: http://scca.org/documents/Solo%20Rul...lo_Rules_2.pdf

I would be willing to bet there will be more classes this year. My guess (and it really is just a guess) would be that there would be a class more towards the end of May or June.

Another option would be to get 12 people together for a Weekday school. We'd all get personal instruction and do more driving than at a regular school. Now THAT would be some serious fun! For info, see this link: http://wdcr-scca.org/SoloAutocross/N...5/Default.aspx

I also heard that MoT might sponsor autox school again this year.

Last year, it was a blast.

How would an ECU reprogram be detected?

I won't tell if you won't! But no one will really check. It's only at national events where your car is impounded and your competitors look it over for anything suspicious. But to be totally legal, I think an ECU reprogram would put you in street prepared.

Are these the same stickers that add 10 HP per? If so, I'll take 10, thanks. I'll pick them up at the next run

The DCMM magnet badge will add 20+ whp, have you had one yet?.

You can have a passenger on runs, but the passenger can't be a driver in the same heat or any subsequent heats.

I don't have the DCMM magnet, but I do have a window cling. I'd say it added a few ponies. That and my SCCA sticker probably added another 5 HP.

Actually an air filter could bump you out of stock class. It depends on whether you have modified the piece of plastic between the filter and the firewall. If there are any modification made to that then you would be bumped from the stock class. At least that is the explanation I got talking with one of the Garfields.

thats what im worried about. since i only have an intake (so far), i will be bumped out of stock, but the people in the class i am likely to be put in will have many more mods that may make it impossible for me to be competitive. then again, i have no autocross experience, so i dont really know. plus, i know i would have fun either way. just wondering.

Basically the whole point when you're starting out is that it's a lot of fun. No, you won't be competitive because other people have tons of mods or they're running R-Compound tires, and there's more technique to driving fast than you might think.

D-Unit, if you have a Cooper S or JCW, you can run in STX [base Coopers are in STS]. Nice thing about the ST classes is that you can only run on street tires, so if you're just showing up it's a lot easier to be competitive. Plus, a number of bolt-on mods are legal eg: exhaust, headers, intake (with some exceptions), performance chip, coilovers, swaybars, etc.

Heads up! Registration opens for three SCCA autocross events
on Sunday, April 27th. At 8 PM, registration for Autocross event 2 opens. The event will take place on Sunday, May 4th at Fed Ex field in Landover, MD. At 9 PM, registration for Level 1 and 2 autocross schools opens. They will be held on May 24th and 25th also at Fed Ex field. Visit solo.wdcr-scca.org to view the events calendar and register for the events. If this is your first time registering for an SCCA event, you will need to create an account on dlbracing.com. It's best to do that before go time because the site gets bogged down by people trying to register.

See you at the races!

I know this has been discussed before, but I have heard contradicting information since then. Please help.

What helmets are legal. What ratings. I remember hearing on this forum that either M or A were fine. M2500 was one of the ratings listed. But I read on the DC SCCA site that most places dont allow Motorcycle helmets. So whats the deal, I'm about to buy a helmet, but I dont want to waste my money.

Also, any recommendations for where to look for A rated helmets. I read that they were stronger, and if they aren't much more expensive, I might as well get one of those. I also would like this to double as a motorcycle helmet in a few years. Thanks in advance.
