Thank you so much, I think I found it:

Subject: Helmet Certification

The Snell Memorial Foundation (www.smf.org) has officially released the SA/K2005 and M2005 helmet standards and the distribution of these helmets has begun. After 01/01/2006 the only helmet certifications that will acceptable for use at SCCA Solo Events will be: SA95, M95, K98, SA2000, M2000, SA/K2005, or M2005 SFI 31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, and 41.2A (www.sfifoundation.com). As an additional reminder, please check your helmet(s) for any structural damage such as cracks or deterioration of impact-absorbing materials under the inner lining. Also, when purchasing a new helmet, size and fit is very important for the best effectiveness.

I'm getting some D-force LTW5's for the bmw. Mini is staying stock (for now). The bmw is my autox car.

So I should just show up on sunday either way, and I might be able to run? I'll be almost the only one in my class anyway I'm sure. I run FP.

What are people's thoughts on a motorcycle helmet vs. a car helmet to do mainly autox? Should I be worried or just go for the cheaper cost?

Registration Form for CDC HPDE Summit Point

I just printed out the registration form, and under SAFETY EQUIPMENT, the helmet item says:

"Helmet ( Snell SA2000 or newer, no M rated helmets will be accepted )"

Edit:

HOWEVER... I just received the following email from Pete Gochman, the event organizer:

Hi Ed,
Helmets must be Snell SA or M, 2000 or newer. So Snell SA2000, SA2005, M2000 or M2005 will work.

Open face helmets are allowed in hard top cars. Open face helmets are also allowed in convertibles but eye protection (face shield, goggles) is also required.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry for the conflicting info, guys. Hope this clears things up once and for all, and I'll keep you posted if anything changes. Again.

So will I be able to go to an SCCA Autocross event with a Motorcycle helmet? I read that they were probably not allowed, anyone know for sure?

Wal-Mart sells Bell helmets for $68. I didn't stop to look for ratings on them, but I'd imagine they'd have something

SCCA allows only SNELL -I think at least 1995 and up - helmets are good for 15 years -every autocross event, however, has plenty of loaners.

If they go by regular SCCA rules, you can either use a motorcycle helmet (Snell M-rated), or an SA-rated helmet, from 1995 or newer.

It's possible that your local club might have more stringent requirements, though, such as only allowing helmets from 2000 or newer, or disallowing M-rated helmets in favour of SA-rated ones. You can probably ask in advance, or just use one of their loaner helmets the first time and go from there.
