Minipol - Thanks for the links ! Still checking them out

Here's one my "heroes" a guy who some of you may remember from your 80's rock 'n' roll days. I had a 20 minute conversation about flying, spitfires,me109's and submarines with him at Jaxx in Springfield many moons ago.

Still can't place him ? How about this.....

ok, how about now ?

Ok 80's rockers do you remember ?

Yep, that's Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden fame turned Airline Captain ! He flies 737's, 757's and Airbus models. I find this guy absolutely amazing, it takes a lot of work (and hours) to become an airline pilot, let alone a Captain. Very talented in fencing (rated 7th in England at one time) and a heck of a historian, He still continues to wail for Iron Maiden too.

Ok, so maybe I'm dating myself a bit, yeah I'm a metal head, but I love all music !

Cheers,

Mike

How timely. Did you guys see the covers of Parade and The Washington Post magazines from this Sunday's paper?

Both mags are doing stories on...female pilots!

Not to suggest that all Metal Bands have a drug problem, but I don't think I'd be entirely comfortable knowing the pilot of my plane was between Iron Maiden gigs!

Does his airline do much in the way of drug testing?

Why is it that this always seems to be what is brought up when it comes to Bruce being a pilot?.....the airlines must meet the British Civil Aviation Authority requirements, so drug testing would be mandatory.

Having worked in a professional recording studio, I can tell you that not all artist are drugged out waste cases. I'm not about to defend Bruce for his past, I'm sure he's done plenty of this kind of thing.

But really, do you think that some drugged out rock-n-roller would really be able to possess the dedication and commitment to becoming a Commercial Airline Pilot ? Not to mention the respect and endorsements required to become a Captain? The amount of material alone that needs to be absorbed is staggering. Not to mention that you start with Private, get IFR rating, get Commercial rating, get complex, then multi-engine, jet and then pay plenty of dues just building your hours.

Give the guy some credit, he's worked very hard to achieve what he has.........

I recall seeing in one his interviews the comment "If you screw up flying....you're dead"

Very true.......

Mark, I wasn't angry, just pointing out the facts. I think there are quite a few people out there that really look at airline / professional pilots as glorified bus drivers. They go through countless hours of schooling and flight training....they are true professionals. I know that when I fly the guy or gal up front is worthy of the position.
