Hit & Run, Which Body Shop?

Hey everyone.

I haven't been in DC too long, so I haven't had a chance to catch up w/ you guys, yet.

My '06 Space Blue/Silver JCW was hit tonight & I'm curious which body shops you all recommend. Everyone involved is fine.

My gf & I were headed southbound on Rock Creek when a guy blew the stop sign on the left-side entry ramp that's just north of the P-street exit--you know, the ramp that appears on the left as soon as you come around the bend. I swerved & got on the brakes, but my front left still caught his rear right.

Crunched hood & bumper, popped the bags, cracked windshield, coolant on the ground, etc. While I was on the phone w/ 911, the guy decided to bail. Didn't get his tag b/c initially he waited around for 5 min while I checked on my gf, called 911, etc--then I turned around & he was gone. Sucks. Ins co should take care of everything, though.

So, I'm just curious, which are the good body shops around here to get her checked out? And how is mechanical inspection of the engine, suspension, etc handled? Should I just get her towed to Sterling or Tate?

Thanks again.

Zack

Sorry to hear about the accident.
Glad that everyone is ok.

I heard a lot of good things about Ashburn Collision Center. Hope this help.

Youch ! Always get the registration and insurance card first thing.

Now you're going to have to pay $200 of your repair costs. That's the Uninsured Motorist deductible in DC.

Yeah, Ashburn is supposed to be pretty good.

Sorry to hear about your car Zach. If you pick CrAshburn Collision - your car will be keeping mine company - if you're insured with State Farm, CR&PW&JB can keep tabs on your claim!

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's State Farm--Stephen Hoyt's office.

Any reason not to send it to the dealer to make sure it gets done 'right'?

Thanks.

Yep, Zach, I can definitely keep an eye on your claim for you. Just give me the claim number and I'll check in on it and make sure to keep you updated on how things are going.

And the dealers don't have full body shops. They refer their body work out.

Just looked at your pics Krut--amazing how similar our damage looks. Except the dings in your rear, & that we popped the bags. Hope they get yours back to you soon. Did you hear an estimate for all that damage?

Thanks CR&PW&JB, I really appreciate that. Not the way I wanted to get initiated into the group, but you guys are a big help.

BTW, my gf & I don't drive everyday, only 1-2 times a week. So, I hate the get a rental car that'll sit around most of the time. Will SF cover zipcar for the few times we'd use it a week?

Thanks.

So heard your car is in pretty sad shape.. more than $10,000 worth of damage. Ouch. I hope you're back on the road soon.

Just in case anyone is wondering why I am not keeping Zack updated on his claim after I mentioned to him that I would... my team is actually handling it. So to help him unofficially would be a possible conflict when I may actually end up being the Claim Rep that makes decisions in the file.

hey guys.

yeah, i went out to look at her yest, when the SF inspector did his estimate--check the pics.

i haven't heard the estimate quote, yet, but the damage doesn't seem to be that bad considering what it'd cost to replace the car. my major concern is transmission/lsd & jcw suspension damage.

basically, the impact is just to the side of the frame bulkhead & sheared off the end of the front bumper. b/c of that, the impact force went into the tire, pushing it backwards, snapping the driveshaft CV, etc.

ashburn is also telling me it'll take a cpl weeks before they can start. i figure that means it'll take a month total (their cpl weeks to get started & get parts ordered in, repairs, inspection, final touches). should i look for a diff shop?

krut, i didn't see your car on the lot, so hopefully that means it's in the garage getting fixed & will be back to you soon.

& CR was a big help before the claim made it to his team, so thanks again.

here are the pics.

btw krut, it's interesting that your damage is worse & your impact looks more severe, yet your bags didn't blow.

guess the r53 & r56 sensor is in a diff place or the programming is diff or who knows what makes the comp decide to pop those things.

PM me your State Farm claim number. Do you have any specific questions about how it's being handled ? Yours should be pretty cut-and-dry... Comp claim.

Thanks. What sux is that this is my 4 cars since I was 16 and 3 out of 4 cars have been broken into at one point.

Once in front of my parents house
Once at my office when I was working in DC
and now in front of my own House.

But through out all of them State Farm has been great. My parents had them now I have them.

so, this gets 'better' (sarcasm).

someone ran into the rental car while it was parked on the street last night--just called in the claim to SF.

i guess this will be another f'ing deductible... these hit & run ppl are relentless!

although, i can't complain about how helpful SF has been.

Oy Vey... yep, afraid you are right, Zack.

Uninsured Motorist claim. And UM comes with a $250 deductible in MD, $200 in DC.

Call SF to report the claim but also let Enterprise know. Don't wait until you take the car back to them.
