The story of Wensleydale
The story of Wensleydale
I've been asked about the name Wensleydale and this is the best story I've seen. Both Leona and I are huge Wally and Grommy fans. Initially Leona was not sure Wensley was the name for the Coop but I knew it fit, the rest is history ! Really, I never thought I'd love a car as much as this !
A Nice Bit of Wensleydale
Long before he became a nocturnal vegetable thief, Wallace was cheese-obsessed. He read magazines with titles like Cheese Holidays and Cheese Monthly. In “A Grand Day Out,” he chatters on about Cheddar and Lankeshire, mentions Philadelphia in passing, and builds a rocket to the moon -- “We’ll go somewhere where there’s CHEESE!” -- when he finds the fridge empty.
In his latest adventure, “The Curse of The Were-Rabbit”, he’s brought back from the dead with a whiff of Stinking Bishop, a hard British cheese with a rind washed in pear alcohol. But his favorite and most often mentioned is Wensleydale, a somewhat lesser known English export than the ultra-famous Cheddar or Stilton.
Wensleydale is a verdant area inYorkshire, the North of England, where the use of agricultural chemicals is restricted. (This fits with Leona's Organic Natural way) Pastures sprout from earth rich in limestone and the cows graze naturally, free and happy. What results from their milk is traditional firm white cheese based on a recipe dating back to 11th century Cistercian monks. Tart, nutty, creamy and crumbly at the same time, it bears some similarity to mild white cheddar. It’s traditionally eaten on top of apple pie, a dessert combination found in the U.K. and reinvented in Canada as Apple Pie & Cheddar.
The cheese is produced by Wensleydale Creamery, who have recently packed it up with a picture of their biggest fan and his wise dog. Wallace & Gromit Wensleydale can be ordered online from www.cheesesupply.com and goes for about $23 a pound. Much cheaper than a trip to the moon. (Wensley's plate frame reads "Everyone knows the moon is made of cheese")

Cheers,
Mike

Cute story. I've been lusting over some of this cheese at specialty stand at the Farmer's Market I go to. It has blueberries in it and looks so good. It's only $16 a pound. I may spring for a bit of it soon.
That is so funny, Mike!
When trying to find a name for our MINI, our thoughts first went to Wallace and Gromit and in fact, we were trying to think of the name of that cheese from A Grand Day Out!
But we nixed that idea quickly after thinking twice about having a yellow car named after a cheese.
I'd love to hear other stories of name origins.

Leona and I have been Wallace and Gommit fans ever since a friend turned us onto them when "Grand day" came out. Not only does Wensleydale sport her new plates "Wensley" a careful look in the back seat and you will find.....

Baaaaaahhhh, Sean the Sheep ! As our run partner
Anybody else have a good name story ? What about Barbarella ? What's the story ?
Cheers,
Mike

I love that you have a passenger!I bought these Wallace and Gromit plastic figures off eBay and almost thought of mounting one on the dash. The Wallace with his arms stretched out would've been funny because it would've been like that scene from Titanic at the front of the boat.

"I'm king of the world, Gromit!....and cheese Gromit, cchhhhheeese!"

And as for Barbarella....we always have an official song for our cars and when we ordered the MINI we scanned our brains for one that would fit this car. Being she's British that narrowed it down somewhat. We wanted a British band...female name, etc. Bev immediately thought of Electric Barbarella from Duran Duran.
The words even fit perfectly because for all I know they may have been singing about a car. Once I saw the first line, I was sold on her name and personality.
"I knew when I first saw you on the showroom floor
You were made for me
I took you home and dressed you up in polyester
Princess of my dreams
Emotionless and cold as ice
All of the things I like
The way you look
The way you move
The sound you're makin'
In ultra-chrome, latex and steel"
You get the drift.
Even better, in the music video there's a mischievous blonde robot and trust me...our MINI is mischievous! She makes us do things we never ever would've done otherwise.
