Lowered MINI - State Inspection
Lowered MINI - State Inspection
Does any one know of garage in Northern Virginia that can do a VA State inspection for a Mini that has been lowered? A Shell or Exxon?
Tried to get it done this morning, but due to the lift in the garage bay, the Mini could not get into the garage.
I am guess Mini of Sterling could do it, but looking for a quick indi shop, as I have pre-inspected it and I am good to go...except for that little unexpected height/lift conflict issue.
Thanks.

Goodyear in Ashburn did mine over the summer. Why does a shop need to put your car on a lift for VA inspection?
there's no reason they need to.....heck, the only reason I can think of is to pop a wheel off for brake check and with most wheels, you can see the pad through the spokes, not to mention a floorjack works fine.
if you are referring to emissions and a dyno test, that's a diff thing. there's not a shop I know of that has an AWD dyno for emissions, so Subaru's for example get an OBD check only. Seems reasonable to me to tell the shop if they can't get it on the rollers, the OBD will suffice - it does for AWD cars.

Onboard Diagnostics (OBD-II). If there's an emissions problem, the OBD-II should register it. The shop can plug in a scanner to look for fault codes in the absence of a dyno loaded sniffer test (the norm).
to make matters worse, NOVA uses mobile sniffer probes. Beware the van parked at an entrance ramp....especially one uphill (load on the engine). Just past, there will be a laser device and camera....checking cars as they drive by. No worries if you have cats in place though

What a bunch of *****.
on one hand, I agree, but in this day of hi-flow cats, there's really no reason not to be running one except cost. If you are going to mod the car, plan to keep the cats intact. I have this argument all the time with my Mustang and SVT Lightning owning brother-in-law - he goes the cheap route and guts the cats.
