Thanks Maxicooper,..forgot about a place to stay. Is there a hotel that everyone is staying at? Most times there is a group discount.

Lodging at the VIR track

I've booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Danville. They've got a pool (gotta feel good to take a swim after a full day at the track), close to a bunch of restaurants, and reasonable ($80/night for a double).

I'd like to do a two day run through the VA twisties to get there. Anybody interested in leaving Saturday morning, spending Saturday night in Monterey VA (awesome B&B), and arriving in Danville VA Sunday afternoon? Route requests/suggestions?

Add the Chili Pepper to the list.
I forwarded my registration form in today.
As for a road trip that weekend, TBD for me, as I have family in Rustburg, VA and I may take a side trip on the way down and or back to the family farm.
There is The Lodge at VIR, Garage Suites, and Oak Tree Tavern, which are right at VIR. I tried calling for rates; however, no answer; I sent an email too.

Any hotel recommendations? I know there are some in Danville and South Boston, but would appreciate any recommendation from those who has been there. I'm looking for a nice clean and comfortable hotel, preferly with Internet and early breakfast?

I probably will go, and if I decide to go, I'll send in my registration form early next week.

We booked a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Danville. Hypnohealer is staying there, too. I think it was around $85/night. It got pretty good reviews on Trip Advisor, too. It has internet, but I'm not sure about breakfast.

You can't go to Danville without having breakfast at Biscuitville.

Is this something you would recommend to someone who has be driving rear wheel vehicles for almost 35 years? The Mini is the first front wheel drive that I tend to run hard and I am always a little nervous that I might react as if it was a rear wheel vehicle and screw up!

I have printed the registration form and am definately thinking about signing up.

Any opinions are welcome,

Thanks Brian

Hey Brian, I would definitely plan on going if it's possible. From my understanding, the event is being put on by folks who are experts with the MINI and they'll teach you how to get the maximum out of your car.

I didn't realize how much I was missing out on until I rode with some of the veterans of the club. Wow! These MINI drivers not only amazed me with their skills but they gave me a goal to improve my driving.

For myself, I'm attending a driving school at Summit Point in a week. Being my first track event, I'm in a "novice" class and I believe I'll be having an instructor in the car for the entire day. I was told by someone that's been through these classes before to let this person know of any concerns and areas we want to improve upon. So if you're having concerns about driving a front wheeled vehicle on the track for the first time, let them know and they'll help you out with that. And where better to learn and possibly make mistakes than on a track?

Anyway, if all goes well here, I think I'm going to try to attend the VIR event.

I have so much to improve upon and any type of schooling will help and as far as MINIs go, I don't think you'll get a better event to learn at that this one.

Glenn

wow...this is the first time I'm seeing this thread..and it looks very promising! I have only been to one auto-x school day but I'm guessing this course is much different.

Looks like it is one of those very worthwhile experiences - I'm hoping even for a fairly stock automatic mcs?!

Do we have any idea how many people are already registered or what the cut-off is? The more reading I do about the driving academy, the more it looks like I'll be signing up. I just want to make sure I get my money's worth of instruction time.

Ambrosia, check out this video of the track. It's taken inside an MCS with no mods (!) and it more than holds it's own on the course!

And here's the track:

The video made up my mind. Registration is filled out and check will be mailed tomorrow. I will be making my reservations at the Holiday Inn Express since it looks like you all are staying there. I plan on heading down on Sunday and staying until Tuesday for a leisurely drive home.

Maxicooper, I am going to try to come up this Saturday and watch the Autox.

See ya there, Brian
