[Sat, Sept. 22nd 12pm - 5pm] Mach V Dyno Project! TOTALLY STOCK MINIs
First post updated. If we're going to dyno a R50, I'd also want to do a non-S R56. Anyone got one?

Okay, it's come to my attention that my original date is the date of an official DCMM club event. Lemme check in with the organizers and make sure I don't step on any toes. Stay tuned.

Of course, this test is about power, and most MC buyers do not focus on power, so the testing will probably all be on the MCS models.
The ideal "comprehensive" list for this, in my opinion - all 100% stock of course (with regard to the powertrain):
02-04 MCS 6-speed
02-04 JCW MCS 6-speed (dealer installed JCW-210)
05/06 MCS Auto
05/06 MCS 6-speed
05/06 JCW MCS 6-speed (dealer installed JCW-210)
06 JCW MCS 6-speed (factory JCW)
06 JCW GP MCS 6-speed
07 MCS Automatic
07 MCS 6-speed
07 JCW MCS 6-speed (dealer installed Stage 1 JCW)
NOTE: The automatic transmission was not available for the MCS from 2002-2004, hence its absence from the list. Also, JCW was not available for any automatic, so there would potentially only be 2 automatics there for the test (one 05/06 & one 07).
WHEW! Long list. The question is, can we get stock iterations of all 10 MCSes there on the same day? Tall order, but it'd be really great if we could.
Updated first post with new (and firm) date! To the people who responded early, I'm sorry for the date change. I hope you can make the September 22 date, but if not it looks like we will at least have some kind of quorum of cars.
Edge, I'm going to stick with my original modest goal of testing a few different cars, mostly the MCS variants. And I'm not going to try to cover all the possible versions. I don't want to dyno any autos -- from experience, they behave unpredictably on the dyno, and that can use up time. This test, in my mind, is NOT an attempt to make an encyclopedic reference of the exact power output of every available factory option. Instead, I hope to learn a little about the general power and torque of the main different types of cars. In my mind, those are MCS, JCW, and GP. And then the newest, the R56 MCS. If we have time to toss in a Cooper just for kicks, that's fine. But as mentioned, I'd say there'd be the most interest from the MCS crowd, and that's my focus.
If the response is great and we want to come back and do a follow-up test, the results will be pretty comparable; the dyno roller has a known mass and readings on a given car are very stable over time, as long as the temperature isn't radically different from one session to another.

Here would be the condensed "ideal" list then:
06 R50 MC 5-speed
06 R53 MCS 6-speed
06 R53 JCW MCS 6-speed (factory JCW, not dealer)
06 R53 JCW GP MCS 6-speed
07 R56 MCS 6-speed
Does that look right, Dan?
The Stage 1 JCW kit for the R56 is so brand spanking new that it would probably be hard to locate one in time, but it should be noted for a future follow up test if possible!
Obviously 05s could substitute for 06s (except for the two JCW variants), but it really would be nice to have them all from the same model year.
Hey Dan,
My R56 Cooper S is totally stock with 16inch Bridgespoke wheels. You have my email, I am the one who was asking about the springs a couple of days ago. Still thinking about them! I can volunteer my car assuming I am around that weekend. Any chance of a test drive of the Mach V MINI R56 to see how the suspension feels?
Mike
