Film Nuts
Film Nuts
Hey, are there any DCMMers out there that are film fanatics? Most of my friends and family don't share the same passion for movies like I do. So, if there are any other film nuts out there who want to catch a show from time to time, lemme know.
I'm almost always up for a movie, as long as my schedule permits it.
I have a semi-standing "movie date" with a friend I used to work with every 6-8 weeks. Kind of a two person thing (we have this whole routine down with whose turn it is to pay, who buys the food, who picks the movie), but I would be up for adding another for time to time to my schedule. My husband is also not a big movie person.
LOL. But, thanks for the unofficial bump
Edge, Jen, PenelopeCooper....gimme a shout or PM anytime you feel like seeing something. Which theatres do you usually like to frequent?
I typically goto Shirlington, Cinema Arts in Fairfax, E Street cinemas for my arthouse/foreign fix, occassionally Loews Georgtown...and for my mainstream movies I goto AMC Hoffman, Fairfax Cinema Delux, AMC Tysons Corner Mall..
BTW, do any NAM officers or other members mind the existence of this thread since it is non-official, and sort of off topic? I can keep things limited to PM's if necessary.

I haven't found a new theatre since moving. When I lived in Laurel I used to go to Arundel Mills Mall ALL THE TIME for movies! Lol! That's a little out-of-the-way these days.
I work near Tysons, so the one near the mall there would be most convenient during the week. Anything out west would be ideal, maybe in Leesburg or Ashburn, for weekend or late evening weekday shows.

I'm a *big* movie fan, and I've been far too out of practice lately! You're a bit of a hike, but as long as I have time to swap out my work truck for my *real* car and get down there...I'll join you for just about anything!

The main difference between an "official" club event and an impromptu, non-official one is a sticky in the forum, a spot on the calendar and a mention on the website.
pl4ypl4y, if there's one thing you clearly haven't learned yet about our club, it's that there's very little that we consider "off topic". We're a social club as much as we are a car club.

Sweetness!
Oops, forgot to answer this...
My #1 favorite is of course, the Uptown, although I don't go there as often as I'd like. The other ones I sometimes frequent are the AMC Hoffman, AMC Tyson's Corner Mall & sometimes the Kingstown theater.
Awesome - howdy, neighbor!
Oh yeah forgot to add The Uptown to my list. I love that theatre but reserve it for very special occassions
Saw the last three Star Wars there.
Ive also been to the AFI Silver theatre once for the premier of Pan's Pabyrinth which was nice.
So, it seems like AMC Tysons might be the in between theatre of choice
Are there any movies anyone is dying to see?
I've already seen Transformers, Die Hard, Paris J'Taime, Sicko...but I tend to see things more than once, too

I love the movies! I love the theater, but it is getting just do darn expensive...and plus we have this nice 55in plasma, and 400DVDs. But I do like to go out for matinees, since I work at nights! I would love to go with yall!
I don't get out to the Smithsonian enough. They often have wonderful film series...and FREE too
I would be game.
If anyone is interested, gimme a shout. I just found out about this and may try it out sometime. This is held at a nice little theatre that shows mostly indie/foreign films in an albeit run-down little shopping center.

This film club has been going on for several years. It is a nice group. I've dropped in on a few of the events in the past. I don't think you have to buy the whole series. The discussion after the film is always very lively.
And then of course you go somewhere for lunch afterwards!

Anyone for a movie tomorrow? I know its kind of last minute...but I'd be interested in the following:
1. Rocket Science
2. War
3. Nanny Diaries
Northern Virginia preferable, but DC and Maryland not out of the question....

Last minute notice: I'm going to see the 4:10pm show of "Shoot Em Up" at the AMC Hoffman theatre in Alexandria, today. If anybody actually sees this and wants to join me that'd be cool.

btw, liked Rocket Science quite a bit even though I'm a bit conflicted with its ultimate message
