Any good shops in the area? I am looking for an INEXPENSIVE (aka cheaper side) cruiser bike with gears. I want to go to a store to try bikes out which would actually have a bike in my price range (ideally under $100, no more than $150). This includes any good targets, kmarts, sporting good stores locations which have a large bike selection. Anybody have any suggestions?
Please only respond with actual suggestions of stores. I know which bike style I like and I know what I want.

We had some good beach cruisers we bought at of all places Wallyworld. Just about 100$ I wish I knew last year you were looking for one, I had two that i gave away...
there are a couple of good stores in the area, but i really don't know where, but I used to buy bikes from Performence bikes. I think there are a couple of branches around, but they may be out of that price range. Good luck in finding one

Good and inexpensive really don't go well together when it comes bikes. That said, Performance Bike Shop in Springfield often has decent pricing on moderate bikes. Of course there is always Craigs List, which is a good way to save a ton on a bike from someone who is trading up, moving, etc.
Find Performance on the web: http://www.performancebike.com/infor...fm?Store_ID=58

I have a beach cruiser w/ no gears and am a too out of shape right to enjoy my rides and am looking for a comfort bike (preferably with cruider attributes) w/ gears to get me out there until I get back in shape. I am looking for something that will last me 6mo - 1 yr. Performance bikes tends to only have the higher end cruisers(my experience when shopping for the one I have) - though I will give them a call. No luck on craigslist lately with what I am looking for (been checking)

Look for a bike with brand name components. They don't have to be expensive, just Shimano or such. Gears that don't work well are a pain. A quick way to see if a bike has junk components is to see if the wheels bolt on or have quick releases. 99% of the time if either of the wheels is a bolt on the parts are sub par.
Nothing cheap in the area. COMMON MAN ITS DC! lol.
anyways, as mark said, and as my dad always told me when i was growing up: you just cant go wrong with shimano running gear. Thats all i have ever had, and it has never let me down. all frames are the same, only difference is the weight and the strength. If your not going for competition or punishment the cheap bikes do the exact same thing as the expensive ones.
