I have a 2011 MC countryman and was looking at getting some winter tires. Was wondering if anyone has tried the Pirelli sottozero's series 2? Any input would be appreciated.

This is all the dealer is offering for runflats in Anchorage. A local tire dealer said they wear out too fast and the grip drops off by about 50% when the tires are half worn out because only half of the siping is cfut to full depth ..I am being told that Michelin X-ice is a better tire. Then what do you do for a spare as they are not runflats?

 

Another of those questions asked over & over. Do a site search for winter tires. There are better choices than the Pirellis and that includes the X-ice. Carry a slime kit/compressor if you're worried about a flat.

 

Thanks Mikey_t, I was on this forum for probably 3 hours last night reading over everything I could find pertaining to winter tires. We are a 3 car family, so having to call for the sapare would not be a huge inconvenience. I feel if we were traveling more than a hour away, we may take it along. As I will be getting another set of rims, I plan to have a summer tire as the spare. Anyone know if the slime freezes? It getds pretty cold in Alaska in the winter...
