Anyone run 225/50r18 WITH SPORT SUSPENSION? Looking at winter tires, wondering if these would rub (full lock turn, compressed on a big bump, etc). I know folks are running these tires on the regular suspension, but looking for feedback specifically from folks with the Sport suspension option (or something that would lower the car even more, like NM or H&R springs).
Thanks!!

Pretty sure Scott (BMWR606) has Sport Suspension and has had no issues. Hopefully he is around and will chime in. I'm also using that size tire, but I have the standard suspension.

Thanks; yes, his posts have been very helpful, but I've lost track of exactly which tires he has used vs planned to use. (Yeah, I could go back and search them all then organize them by date...) I believe he was going to run this size for his summer tires and was using taller but narrower for his winter tires without any problems.

UPDATE: found an older post by Scott where he does mention running 225/50/18 and his sig lists Sport Suspension. So... guess the size is good unless anyone else has different experience.

Pretty sure his 18's were Michelin Pilot Super Sports and that he went with smaller wheels in the winter. Judging by the clearance on our CM, I'm about 98% certain there would be no rubbing with the sport suspension, but Scott would be able to comment with certainty.

Same thoughts, but figured it's worth throwing out the question as one final check before I pull the trigger and place an order. I appreciate getting the second opinion, though!

Besides, there're never enough new posts in the CM section...

225/50/18 trend

yes, i am running michelin pilot super sports in size 225/50R18 with oem turbofan wheels and sport suspension

no issues at all AND my speedo is spot on accurate with the 1 inch larger OD tires (26.9" vs 25.9" stock)

but for winter, i got a set of 16" oem alloy wheels from ecstuning and run dunlop grandtrek sj6 205/70R16 (27.3" OD) studless ice and snow AT (all terrain) tires

the 205 width better penetrates the snow and the /70 sidewall better protects the wheels from potholes ... 3 Chicago winters and no bent wheels

the dunlops were only $83 ea ... most underrated winter tires

last winter i did some snow drag racing and beat all comers ... including michelin snows, bridgestone snows, pirelli snows and Continental snows on all kinds of different cars including subarus, jeeps, bmw x models and audis

Nice! Thanks for the feedback and update - the pics of those wheels/tires in other threads look good, too.

215 70 16

Hi,

I'm thinking if fitting some 215 70 16 (with a 15mm spacer), but they will fill the arch 7mm more than your 205's.

Do you think they will fit or should I go for the 205?

Dan.

Dan, on my cms all4, 215/70R16s rubbed in front at full lock. They were mounted on 16x6.5 et 46 wheels. On the rear, it was very close to rubbing the rear fender plastic trim at full extention.

You can use the fitment tool at willtheyfit.com to compare my wheels with yours.

215 70 16

Thanks for that.

I was going to fit the 215 with a 15mm spacer until I saw the photo of your rear wheel arch with the 205 very close, so it's 205/70/16 for me.

Thanks again.

I put the 205/70R16 winters on for the winter of 12/13. Just put the second set on this fall.
Never had any rubbing with them.
The ride is plush considering the rough shape the roads are in all winter.

Just replaced the stock 18" Turbofans and 225/45/r18 Goodyear Efficient Grip (summers) with new General GMax-AS-05 225/55/r17 and new Motegi MR142 wheels (17 x 7). Knocked 7.5 lbs off each corner. No rubbing on lock and kept the mudguards. Wanted Wildpeak Trails but those were 27lbs vs General GMax 24lbs.

Car mows through road defects (pot holes, rail tracks and dirt/gravel driveways, Ha Ha!), no more crashing the shocks, quiet, is nimble, improved road feel but still a little floaty (attribute that to needing new shocks an thicker swaybar) and engine no longer lugs. Basically the car just flys now. Will upload more pictures tomorrow.
