I hate to start up another computer based thread... however I found this site

of course its true.....it's for a MINI one.

The MINI one is a car offered over in england that is exactly like the cooper, but MINI purposefully programs the car to have less power than the cooper to keep insurance prices low. So this chip is just taking that limitation off basically.

 

my bad I posted the wrong link. there is one for the cooper s and cooper that offers 15bhp.

 

That would be sweet if it was true.

 

I'd be more interested in knowing the HP gain at the wheels.

 

15 is highly doubtful from a cooper....expect 3-5

 

mabye on a stock mini? seems to me like with everymodification big or small a new ecu would optimize performance?

 

yah...though getting up to 15 would take a lot

ECU's can only help so much...even with lots of mods

 

Well...on my Jetta it yielded me 35HP. Dyno proven. It just depends on the responsiveness of the ECU. And to add...I had a Superchip on my Mustang. It yielded some good gains and I liked the customer service. But, who knows about the Mini. I would try it but eventually I am gonna run a EM unit and don't want to waste the money.

 

yah some non-mini cars have great possibilities with the ECU...especially VWs where the chip can be a HUGE difference. Unfortunately, BMW squeezed a lot of the performance out in stock form

 

I put one on my VW Golf and went from 150 hp to 195 hp at the wheels, So it can be done but not likely.

You probably had 1.8T engine in your Golf

 

I heard most German cars are very ECU friendly, I don't know if its true but I've heard of numbers as high as 50hp from an A6.

 

Maybe on an A6, however unlikely from a Mini.

 

The reason the VWs & Audis get such improvements is that the ecu controls turbo boost (this is almost certainly the 1.8T) I have an A4 that I chipped with GIAC software and realized just such substantial improvements, but it's because in addition to the changes in timing, fuel optimization, etc. you're literally cranking up the boost psi. You're absolutely not going to get such gains on either the normally aspirated cooper or the MCS (supercharger boost not being cranked up by the chip).
