MCS exhaust in a MC??

Is it possible?

What else would be required to make it work besides parts?

Revmini, just curious about why you'd want to do that. Is it for the straight out the back look, or are you looking for a different sound? I'd worry that going from one muffler to two would be overly restrictive for the Cooper.

I agree, I think it would be too restrictive and probably quiet... MCS exhaust are also heavier and more expensive in the after marketworld

i don't think it's possible. unless you're willing to let go of your spare, alter your rear valance, add/buy new mounts... +the dual exhaust may be too restrictive.
im sure its do-able... just not sure if the payoff is worth it

The MC cat back exhaust is made for the MC engine and has the right amount of back pressure to maximize power. It is also light in weight and lower in cost. There are many to choose from and some are quite loud and aggressive.

The MCS cat back exhaust is dual in design and will not easily fit the MC.
You'll need to-
Remove the MC spare tire completely
Change the rear bumper lower plastic valence to move the exhaust tip opening to the middle from the side.
Worry about the backpressure being wrong leading to loss of power- now you'll need to modify it somehow.
Cope with the increased weight of a dual exhaust system- not a good idea for a MINI that has less power than an MCS.

Now another idea would be to use a single sided exhaust that has dual tips in the center like the alta sportone exhaust but that would interfere with the spare tire as well. At least this way it is single sided and looks like a dual tip MCS exhaust. Note that on a dual tip exhaust with single sided exhaust the flow of the heat may discolor one tip selectively due to the flow pattern of the hot exhaust.

It will work and will fit.
the car will (as ive heard) probably drive even a little bit better (the downpipe diameter is a little bigger).
Though, youll have to buy all the mountings, and it will hang around 5 centimeters lower than under a cooper s (dont know why, it just does).

I agree with Justintime and Minihune's comments about added weight. Many of the aftermarket cat-backs for the MC will get you a net loss of several pounds (I think I knocked off at least 50 lbs with the magnaflow :-)! Remember, our Coopers may have less power, but they weight less then the MCS (what, like 100 lbs I think?). So I'd suggest mods that take advantage of that, or further reduce weight.

I don't doubt that it will fit but I wonder about the larger pipe diameter and back pressure. If you increase pipe diameter you are affecting back pressure and normally aspirated engines need some back pressure for best results.

Try calling Randy Webb at Webbmotorsports.com, Eric at Helix13.com or Randy from M7 and ask this same question and see what they say about using an MCS exhaust on an MC from a performance standpoint.

If the exhaust does hang lower than the stock version then you'd have limits on lowering your MC. I know that my MCS once lowered is only about 2.5 to 2.7 inches off the ground and any MC can do my suspension mods.

Any significant speed bumps could pose a problem with scraping on your straight pipe depending on it's position and what area is lowest once installed.

You can do it, but I'll assume you're talking about a single-sided aftermarket system.....as already mentioned, too much work, weight, etc, if you start with a stock MCS system. I got tired of dealing with the quality of the afterthought exhaust systems built for the Cooper - that's why I decided to look into the higher quality MCS options. I bought an Alta Sportone and I'm going to have the tailpipe cut off and replaced with a shorter, straighter pipe and tip to exit my Cooper valance. Other than that I just have to deal with the hangers.

not a big problem

An aftermarket S exhaust will fit a standard Mini, but you will need to buy the S heat shield (~$135US) and the 4 upper S exhaust brackets (~$10US ea) and the S rear bumper valance (~$45US). The Alta Performance Sportone exhaust will fit the standard Mini with only the 2 right side upper S exhaust brackets and S valance.
