you say the engine is the 1.6 in there now, with 90bhp? How much of a difference is that engine that is in there now to an S engine, other than the S/c? Are we taking a different head, different compression ratio?? Realistically, if the block is the same as the S, why not build it up the way you want it? You should be able to find the brackets for the A/C from a junked up mini. Your should probably swap in the dash as well, considering your going to want the stock look of the vents right?

I would highly consider looking into some aftermarkets stuff. If your going to do a complete S/C install, have you thought about using the M62, rather than the M45? Are you going to find an ECU from a junked S, or will you be using a seperate controller?

The engine Ive got at the moment is the 1600cc engine, standard 90bhp, chipped to 130bhp (incl. carbon airbox). Its actually the same as the US-cooper engine, but has a different ECU setting.

Now, why cant you just bold a supercharger onto your cooper-engine?

- The cooper s has different pistons which lower the compression from 10:1 to 8:1
- the cooper s has different, stronger driveshafts
- the cooper s has a different, stronger crankshaft
- the cooper s has the 6-box getrag transmission with a different flywheel

for the rest:
both engines use the same bougies, ecu, fuelpump, waterpump, oilpump etcetc...

so, because of the different, essential stronger parts, just bolting on a supercharger isnt an option...

so other then different pistons and a different compression ratio... So basically, I haven't seen anything to justify you needing to purchase a full new engine. Why not get some custom pistons made, or get the mini s pistons. You can do all the stuff to the same engine, granted as long as it's the same block. All you need is some stronger stuff.

I would personally buy some forged pistons. Get a new head, cogsworth or FBT or something. Get the drive shaft crankshaft.

Why pull out the heart of your mini if you love her so much. She just needs some engine work. *shrugs* it's your money not mine though.

Since your doing this you should think about going with an M62 instead of the stock supercharger. Now that would be nutts!!!

Can you use a Cooper exhaust instead of the S exhaust? Would be a very unique Mini!

You should keep the Cooper Bonnet!!! Figure out how to get air to the intercooler some other way. This way no one will suspect anything

Ive already got the aeropack

BUT GUYS,
going over 150bhp the getrag 6-speed is a MUST. this requires a different flywheel.
the extra power also requires the cooper s reinforced crankshaft. replacing the crankshaft is more work than swapping a engine in and out...

Or your can go water to air intercooler as well like the Ultrik or the Madness to avoid hassle. Would the Cooper hood have enough clearance for a top mount?

I also don't understand the need to swap out the engine. Isn't there a way to put the Getrag 6 spd in a cooper. There should be another way since the engines are essentially the same except for the drivetrain and internals. Why couldn't you just change out the tranny and other drivetrain parts and change out the engine internals for forged parts and lower compression and slap a good turbo or supercharger on.

If you just want to turn it into an S, than switch the engine and tranny. But if you want the best performance, you will probably want to change the head and camshaft and various other mods. While you're at it change the pistons for compression and put on the 6spd with a lightened flywheel.

If I had the budget, that is what I would do...only I would try to find a different tranny that could handle a little more power and put in some turbos.

Labor cost for rebuild is more expensive then a straight swap he said earlier.

You know what's funny though... second fastest Mini is Paul Webster's ONE swapped with stock Cooper S engine with a 100 shot. Of course, the ONE had a pretty extreme diet.
