can the CVT trans be replaced with a MCS aisen auto?

hi, can the cvt transmission in a 2005-2006 MC (non-s) be placed with the aisen transmission in the MCS 2006?

e.g. the thing just bolts on and then some sort of an ecu replacement and its all ready to go and all?

i know its cheaper just to get a mcs instead, but i live in a place where the dealership doesn't charge for hrs and buying an mcs costs somewhere north of $52k usd

not to mention that assuming if i get one it'll be near impossible to find parts for it

anyone?

Where are you? There are lots of dealerships that will ship you a MINI for only $500... and it sounds like that will be a LOT of savings for you!!! 52k?!?!

I asked about changing the trannies and NAM seemed to think that it would be a LOT of work.... and REALLY expensive.....

other side of the world across a giant pond and japan in the way

that and a 270% customs tariff making the $52000

and thats without jcw or the crono pack

even if its "expensive" it'll still be cheaper by far

i just wanna know if the holes line up at all on the trans between the two cars

it can't be *that* hard to answer

You might want to check out realoem.com. It might be able to help you with finding part #s and answers to some of your questions.

Why you want to saddle the 115HP Cooper engine with a slushbox with a torque converter???

The slushbox with the torque converter gets the power to the road better then the belt driven cvt tranny.

It would be a LOT cheaper and easier to purchase an extended warranty

Well, that may be true but the AISIN 6-speed auto in the MCS is heavier than the ZF VT-1 CVT in the Cooper.

I have owned a '02 MC CVT for 4 years and haven't had an issue (yet) with the CVT. It think it is a very good transmission for the Cooper engine and it is lighter than a comparable 4 speed slushbox.

The CVT is going away for 2007 and will be replaced in favor of a 5 or 6 speed slushbox in the R56 Cooper model.

:impatient
He is not asking for peoples experiances with the CVT....He is asking the knowledgable MINI community if it CAN be done....does it fit, does it bolt up etc.

Sorry Judge Planeguy from deviating the topic at hand. I am just questioning the reasoning as to why would anyone wants to saddle a 115HP N/A 1600cc engine with a heavy slushbox?

fine, if it makes you feel better:

can the cvt in the mini be replaced with the getrag 6-speed found in the MCS (MCS.2006->MC.2006)?

my dealership does not charge for hours and no, i can't just trade it in because i had my mini shipped across a giant pond called the pacific ocean

and no, i don't have another 60 grand cash usd to order another car, wait 6 months for the car to build, arrange for shipping across the world, then wait while customs here decide for a month if the thing is an economy car or a sports car, then fine me 270% of the cost of the car because it was an import, wait for me to file some more paperwork to work the 270% down to 200%, open a commitee hearing about it, decide that perhaps 200% is more resonable, give me a piece of paper with a barcode on it, and then have me wait another unknown amount of time so i can get plates for it

and then drive the thing home on a flatbed from the port city to where i live then some local DOT can rivet the plates to my bumper with tamper-proof rivets to prevent me from swapping plates, put a sticker on the plate

and then its mine

so:

cost of mini:

1. the car $15000 (yeah its cheaper to buy direct)
2. shipping for $3000 (insured, packaged, etc)
3. tarriffs of 270% -> $40500
4. refund of 70% - > -- $10000
5. the flatbed for $20
6. and a 1% of the above for DOT approval $400

and thats where the $45000 mini comes from

and no it doesn't have NAV (obviously because no local maps), without the sports suspension (bilsteins are cheaper anyways, if you consider the cost of the upgrade carries a 270% tax), and no chrono pack either

so anyways, where were we about the can i swap the CVT transmission for the aisen auto found in the mcs again?

do the holes line up (can someone who has worked with both cars tell me if the holes on engine and then the bellhousing unit? are identical/line up, etc)

what about length of the transmissions? dimensions?

is the control unit for the aisen the only part i have to buy? or is that somehow linked with the current ecu? is it networked or just connected via an rpm line and a engage neutral something signal wire?

what about power? 12V?

thanks again for the time
