Doing a 6 speed swap in my wife's 2003 R50. Down to the clutch slave cylinder install at this point. Bought all three pieces of hose for the cylinder because I thought I needed them but can I continue to use the long piece from the reservoir to the location of the Midlands slave cylinder? See the pictures, the bend on that is pretty much U shaped and the R53 one is not U shaped but the hose to the slave cylinder in the lower location would fit, especially if I bend the U out a little bit.
Is there any reason I can't use the long peice that is in there, along with the "lock valve" at that location (in the middle of the line)? It will give me another inch or so of line and I did install the regular (non- dual mass) flywheel kit, so it's got the same style of clutch as it had before. I think minimizing clutch chatter is the function of the lock valve. By re-using the already in place "long hose" I would only be adding a new piece of hose to get to the new slave cylinder location and leaving all existing hosing in place.
If you have done this swap, please let me know what you did about the slave cylinder piping.
Also, I did see talk somewhere of needing to recode the ECU because the transmission is going from a 5 speed to 6 speed- is this true? I know that the coding needs to be done with the CVT to 6 speed swap but I had not heard of it when simply going from a 5 speed to 6 speed.
It's Sunday and I would like to finish the clutch piping on Tuesday, so feel free to weigh in.
For the record, I ended up just bending the "U" pipe out a little which was enough for the "new" pipe to connect to it and reach the slave cylinder. I did remove the "lock" valve before I put it all together.
