Cooper (non-S) 2006 R50 - manual & auto engines the same?
2006 R50 - manual & auto engines the same?
Sorry for the question if it has already been addressed - no luck finding the answer on my end. Specifically, is the engine the same in a 2006 automatic transmission and manual (5-speed) transmission? I've got a 2006 R50 with a manual transmission and a bad engine. I've got a line a decent 2006 R50 engine which was equipped with an automatic [blown] transmission. Can I simply swap the engines? Or is there anything unique to either the automatic or manual transmission from an engine standpoint?
Other than the ECU's, the engines should be identical. Each car's ecu's will be programed for the type of transmission the car was equipped with and to my knowledge, won't work with a different transmission. I would think that you would just keep your old ECU and it should work.
@thumper464 - while true; I think that the OP wouldn't need to swap that out. If the OP's just looking to swap out the full block and head they can leave all the other bits alone and reuse their original bits - like the airbox and such.
