A discovery for all us Non-s people
They felt relatively equivalent in weight. I still have the original one, which I can weight but it wasn't something that crossed my mind at the time.
This sounds too good to be true haha. I had just about given up on power boosts for my non-s... How was this install or how much did you pay a muffler shop?
I have a muffler delete right now and this makes sense, it sounds way better but it definitely feels restricted somewhere. Let me know! Thanks

It looks like it doesn't fit on my '13 cooper... I just got so sad haha. Magnaflow's site says its only for the 07 to 11s... Anyone put it on a 12/13? Did they really change anything, its still an r56?

I just did some research and could not find any differences from the 07 to 11 and my 13... very confused why it says the part is not compatible with my car. 49028 part number is compatible with years 07 through 14?? very confused now. This isn't legal in CA but tempted to buy anyway.

They are different part numbers, but I do not know why. The exhaust manifold gasket is the same and a catless header covers 07-13 so it appears connection points are the same.
A way around getting a new cat?
I am faced with replacing mine with a $3000 + price tag. I'm hunting down options and would love a performance boost too. I don't know if it's legal in Michigan, but my Mini may die soon if I keep driving with the engine light on for the catalytic converter :-(

Hey everyone! I just found this tread from a link in another post. After reading this post, and checking the web for Spring Booster related topics, I decided to check out what my '07 MINI Cooper was doing. I was a bit skeptical about the Sprint Booster
By using my Foxwell NT510 scanner, I was able to look at the relationship between the throttle pedal signal and the throttle actuator position. Result: The throttle pedal is instantaneous and that's clearly visible by the change in readings on the scanner. the throttle plate on the other hand is not all that quick. From full throttle to full open, it took 4 seconds. Wow!
I may have to get a sprint booster and check it out.

It comes down to where you live and the emission controls that are required by the Federal government. California, NJ, NY and Connecticut are required to have California emissions. In those states you would need the CA version because it has the ability to curb emissions lower and stay compliant. Just about everywhere else has federal emissions and the FED version will be sufficient. It would have less material inside the cat. If you look at the sticker under the hood, it will say "this vehicle complies to the (model year) and complies to (FEDERAL OR CALIFORNIA) emissions." That is how you can tell which unit you need. If you put a federal emission cat on a California emission vehicle, its performance might not satisfy the calibration of the computer and it may turn on the the check engine light.
I can see the heat shielding in your photo, I took the top part of mine off to have a look. Does the heat shielding fit with the magnaflow one since the diameter is much larger than before? also how long did the install take you, I should be ordering this part in a couple weeks once I have time.

R55 to R56 brake upgrade
I’ve been looking into it and have been told that R56 brakes will bolt on to the oem bracket and brake lines that my r55 has. I’ve been looking into some nicer , better brakes like the S/JCW. But I haven’t been able to find any info/ Kits
I accidentally bought a set of R56 S brake rotors which are slightly larger than the non-s rotors. They use the same brake pads. I bought the Cooper S brake calipers brackets and everything bolted up fine. I am using EBC redstuff pads with ECS Tuning braided brake hoses. I do not think you can do better than that for brake performance unless you are in a track situation. This car stops beyond good. They are fantastic! I think the stock Cooper brakes were very good to begin with. I am just one of those people that tries to upgrade where you can.
Ah ok, I might just get better rotor and pads, since the brakes are amazing, and I’ll definitely take a look into them. Probably crossed/ crossed & drilled rotors that’ll fit behind my 16 inch wheels
I had crossed drilled and slotted on the car for awhile. I then came across a post in an Acura NSX forum that gave a very good explanation for not using cross drilled or slotted and recommended a good set of blank rotors. I accepted his explanation and on my next brake job I bought a set of Zimmerman blanks. Aside from how cool slotted and drilled look, I don't think my brakes could feel any better than they do.
