Just got my new hardtop home and as I've been digging into more technical specs, I had the thought of putting a BMW i8 3 cylinder in a Cooper. Anyone heard of this or know if it is even possible? Just thought it may make an interesting thread. Cheers!
An i8 engine in the Cooper would be absolutely amazing. It *might* be just as well to put on the i8's turbo on the Cooper and then do a piggyback setup to raise the boost. I'm not sure if there's a way to get the i8's ECU programming onto the Cooper, or if that's relevant with the hybrid setup.
I thought I read somewhere that the Cooper 3 cylinder and the i8 3 cylinder used the same engine, with the i8 having two electric motors to help it with a torque fill and extra electric HP.
I know the intake and exhaust are different, even though the intake looks similar , plus the i 8 has different management and the additional electric motors.
