Water Temp Sending Unit?

Researching putting in some aftermarket gauges in my R50 for water temp and oil pressure.

I'm wondering where to install the water temp sending unit. The R50 doesn't have the same coupler piece that the R53 does in the front upper coolant hose. Installing the coupler with the 1/8 NPT would involve cutting a coolant hose as far as I can tell

Anyone done this on an R50? Where did you put the sending unit?

After giving this some thought:

1. Cut the lower radiator hose and insert an adapter with a 1/8 NPT hole.

2. Use the plug on the back of the engine block.

People say vibration engine vibration can quickly kill the sender, so it looks like number 1 would be the way to go.

Anyone installed on of these on an R50 out there?
