I've searched and a problem I see is that the engine block has to be modified, has anyone done this???
Is it an S or base Cooper? On the base Cooper plenty of people have done the swap including myself 12 years ago, and I'm still driving it almost every day. It's a doable swap and does not require the engine block to be modified. Due to the cost and the age of these CVT Coopers now, it probably only makes sense financially if you do the work yourself.

You'll need the transmission, shifter cables, flywheel/clutch setup (Valeo single mass setup is a decent stock-like option), pedals, hydraulic lines, axles, trans motor mount, clutch slave cylinder, and some wiring stuff if you want the reverse light and cruise control to still work. The trickiest part for a DIYer is the coding, and Way Motor Works in Atlanta is able to do that part remotely. You send him all of the computers in the car and he's able to code it as a manual with no check engine lights or other faults.

I'm dismantling a Coooper S in WI with all the necessary swap parts (including a 6spd with the factory LSD and valeo SMF conversion). Let me know if I can help!

I know it’s years later and no reply is expected. BUT I have completed my 6 speed swap and am now LOST. I have no crank no start. I have tried to jump the two thick black and yellow wires. But still nothing. Could there be another other reason other than trying to bypass clutch safety switch?

OOf , I sure hope that you can figure it out.
You did get all the car modules reprogramed? I was told that once all that is done any tech should treat it as nothing special , just a Cooper that needs to be repaired.

For those of you who have done this swap- what is your engine revving at when you are doing 70 in 6th. Mine is at 3k and I feel like that is a little high compared to the revs when the Midlands was in it. I know this is a CVT swap thread but once you have the 6 speed in it shouldn't matter.

Thanks

Val

Mine is also around 3k at 70 in 6th gear, and it is a facelift 6-speed. I think the pre-facelift 6-speeds have a slightly different gear ratio and will rev a little lower in 6th gear. I looked into swapping just the 6th gear many years ago, but seemed like more trouble than it was worth.
