Can the Midland be saved... or helped at all
I knew you were gonna say that
The 8.05 is on worn tires, with 3.1 secs 0-60ft
When i buy new tires and fix my gearbox, i'll let you know
Also stock 0-60mph is 9+ secs.
Also stock 1/4 mile is 17+ secs, mine 15.5 secs.
Also stock 0-1000m is 31 secs, mine's 28.8 secs.
C ya around.

lol, I run a 2.5s 0-60ft spinning
. Worn tires have nothing to do with it. My worn continentals hooked much much better than the newer set I have now.Whenever you catch up with me, let me know
Congratulations you just proved you know nothing about dynamometers. It's not the unit itself that reads high, it's the numb skull behind the computer controlling it that lets it do so.
Whether I'm right or wrong, he's still in the stock range.
If I spent the money and work you did on your car, I would be in the low 14's. I have NOTHING BUT BOLT ONS AND RUNNING FASTER THAN YOU.
That's what it all comes down to. All that work for such a slow time?
Don't you tell us what your mods are?
To get back on track,i've read a while back that somewone used a Rover manual to strip down a midlands apparently they have a very similar tranny but have not had the failures as in the Mini for some reason.Anyone know which model Rover and where the manual can be obtained,Mini Mania sells rebuild kits and parts along with complete refurb gearboxes. So if we R50 owners get our hands on this we've got another option,i doubt my mechanic would be too keen on stripping down my tranny using brail
My mechanic opened the gearbox today, replaced all the bearings (with SNR, koyo and SKF bearings, same as OEM), and replaced a few other parts needed. Now he needs to assemble the gearbox and place it on the car. I wouldn't say it is very difficult for an experienced mechanic. This Midland gearbox, is the same gearbox with the Rover R65, which was based on an old Peugeot/Citroen gearbox, the MA. I wanted to use a shorter final drive from the MA gearbox, but it is not a straight swap. The pinion is the same, but the differential is a bit different. I have a spare gearbox now, which is going to be the mule, for the shorter final drive conversion, and LSD, later.
This is the R65 repair manual, pdf form :

This is the bearing rebuild kit i bought, very good seller. All the bearings needed are included, two differential bearings, two for the input shaft and two for the output shaft.
If more parts than the bearings are needed, this seller has rebuild kits that include all the bearings new, and all the internals from Rover R65 gearboxes (used but inspected, as he told me) :

Again i say thanks Nick, this now gives us an option. My car is an 03 R50 cooper but it's in mint condition i care it.It had a tranny change at a year old under warranty and this one has been running sinse(knock wood).I've plowed quite a bit in the suspension and have it the way i want it and dont want to part with it now after doing all that stuff. My mechanic is really a Suburu specialist,he works on the major WRX rally cars here so he's no fool,That rebuild kit would be good for me to have lying around as it's not expensive and i've got a clutch and Aluminum flywheel to install at some point therefore it might be a good idea to slap that rebuild kit in while the tranny is out, seems like it's a fairly straight forward transmission to work on.I live in the Carribbean and dont have the luxury of going to the dealer for a problem like this, think your dealers are bad, last i checked with them they did'nt have a thermostat or a radiator cap in stock lol.

Hey Nick, after all the work you've done to your cooper, is the throttle response anywhere near close to an S? I drove my friend's S last night and wow! The difference is night and day. It really made me rethink putting money into my cooper and just sell it for an S. Still on the fence but I'm leaning toward the S. I don't want to have to worry about the supercharger, intercooler, or the water pump going bad. However, witht he R50, I have to worry about the midlands. I guess that's the trade off?
MiniMe02, the thottle response is ages better than an S. My friend has a 2003 R53 with Digitech pulley (13%), digitech remap, M7 CAI, free flow cat and cat back exhaust, when he sat in mine in the workshop, he was amazed from the response mine has. He was playing with the throttle in neutral, and kept telling me how good the response was. (I thought it was just his impression) But when i did the same in his, WOW, i was surprised, i was pressing the throtle and the rev counter needle was barely moving!! Like i didn't even push the throtle! But in terms of power-trq, our cars are not comparable.
