Another CAI question

Currently I am running a K&N Typhoon in my '06 MC and was initally pleased with it, but over time it has grown tiresome. It is almost too loud, or at least the wrong kind of loud. With that said, my question is this, would a simple high flow drop in filter (K&N, Alta)with stock box and resonator cure the noise problem or would there be a bigger advantage in a different CAI such as an aFe or DDM. The quantity of noise from the K&N is not as bothersome as the quality. More of a temporary din above 4500 rpm than a growl as I anticipated. Also would there be any performance gains in a new CAI versus a drop-in and would they be worth the price difference?

Buyer's remorse I guess.

Any input would be appreciated.
