None of this stuff is from RMW as there wasn't any RMW stuff available, but I've chosen the bits and pieces carefully and I'm looking forward to seeing how it all works out. I admit the TB may have been a waste (maybe...), but the rest of my choices seemed right (to me) to work together as a system on an R50.

Hmmm, I wonder how I go about trying to start a "Jan tune in (or near) DC" campaign.....
Kurv, I was checking out your mod list the other day and am curious as to what kind of number you'll make. From everything I've seen, I'm willing to bet you have most modded '50 on here.

Thanks, but I bet you're wrong.....there are real junkies lurking here who don't advertise.....

I just like the idea of experimenting -- trying things to see if they work (to see if I was right). Best of all is doing (or having done) custom work, because it means I'm counting on my own little gray cells to some extent, plus it makes my R50 even more unique.

I have MTH tuner now, is Jan tune better than MTH?

Does Jan update via OBD port?

Man... I think I have to take a trip down to the OC to visit my girlfriend's parents

Jan, do you have any open appointment times between this September 14 through September 28?

Jan will be tuning our R50 on Oct. 17th in Dallas... Dr. Mike's custom, hand-crafted ported/polished head (over 80 hours of love!), inconel valves (stock size from an S), Schrick cam, aFe intake, Miltek header, Magnaflow cat-back all flowing through a late-model Getrag 6-speed (Exedy Hyper Single setup, Quaife LSD)...

Talk about not being able to wait to see what kind of power it's making and what Jan can do with it! Ah, the suspense is KILLING us!

Baseline best prior to head, cam and header was 111 whp and 110 ft/lbs. I'll bet we're somewhere beyond that now. Justabit...

I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting to hear about that one. I also have a hand-crafted, ported/polished head (taken in stock form from an S and still has the stock iconel valves), Schrick cam and aFe intake, but with an OBX header (coated), and ALTA cat-back (the 2.5"). Plus I figured the next step (probably before I can get to the clutch/tranny) is a Jan tune.

So.....

I assume you mean the race header? I have plans for making a one-off, optimized for our current setup, but it's going to be at some point in the future. I've been discussing with a local fabricator that's done a lot of specialized header work, and he's got something special in mind...

The reason we have a Getrag 6 in it now is because we blew up two Midlands with the current configuration.

Pretty much what we did - takeoff from a JCW install that I picked up for a measly $150!

Just got the oil changed, refreshed the aFe filter, and installed some BRISK Silver Racing plugs in preparation for my tune on Friday, 10/17 @ 1:00 PM. I'll post my dyno results on Friday and then give my track impressions, as we'll be headed to Eagles Canyon for our BMWCCA DE on 10/18-10/19.

Does this tune work on an R50 with CVT? Do you have to tune it separately for the normal drive operation and the sport drive?

The Tune is to the motor, so it should work, but I'm not sure the CVT is going to give you the same "feeling" that I have w/o the CVT.

I'm sure Jan will chime in soon.

Can't wait for the results after your tune.

It should work, although with an auto transmission it would be ideal if the shift patterns are also adjusted to get the most from the engine tune. I haven't heard of anybody doing that.

However, the CVT transmission is not known for being robust. I'm not sure that I'd want feed more power through it.

Rumor has it Jan is coming to my area soon so I'd love to know if he has dealt with this issue yet. Also, I have the UniChip now and would love to dyno it then pop it off and have him tune it and dyno it to see how it compares. I suspect having a custom tune by Jan would be the better of the two.

It should take about an hour, Church Automotive charges $110 per hr and the tune is $350
