1968 Classic Mini Rotor Specs/disc Brakes
1968 Classic Mini Rotor Specs/disc Brakes
Good evening, wanted to see if anyone can provide the specs for turning rotors on disc brakes. My classic Morris Mini Minor needs brake work and my auto instructor and I wanted to see what to turn the rotors down too (minimum thickness - point of no return info)
I'm sure it's a disc mod; just got the car and don't have any further info, other than it's a mk 3. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance~

What brakes are on the car? 7.5" Cooper S with 10" wheels, or later 8.4" with 12 or 13" wheels? Specify what you have & ask over on www.minimania.com for a quick answer.
There are 3 diameters of disc brakes for a mini. 7 inch, 7.5 inch, and 8.4 inch. If your car is truely a mk 3 chances are, it never had disc brakes, as all of them came with drum brakes on all 4 corners until 1984. (unless you have a true cooper S mk 3- of which there are maybe 1000 left in the world). If they are 7 inch rotors, don't bother turning them as they normally fade after 2 stops from 70 mph. Not sure of the allowances off hand, but I know you can get Brembo 7.5 rotors for under $50 each through Heritage.

Thanks for the replies. The rotors are the 8.4" on 12" rims. It's not a true Mk3. I believe it to be a Mk2, with a Mk3 body shell and a MK1 front. I have no idea what the previous owner was thinking. The disc were after market add ons according to him. It's making it a nightmare trying to figure out what parts to actually order. I do know that it has hydrolastic boosters; so if anyone can tell me what specifically had those, that would be great!
We turned the rotors in class. The car stops like a champ now. Even an on-the-car brake lathe worked!
There are a lot more Mark 3's with disk brakes than the "true cooper s". Lots of Authis and Innocentis Mark 3's had disk brakes. My 1972 Authi 1275 GT had them, and the '73 Inno (which is also a "true" Mini Cooper) in my garage has them.

I guess you're right. I was refering to North American (ie Canadian) spec Mk3. mk4.... minis. Not too many Authis over here, probably less than Mk3 Cooper S cars. Chances are, the brakes have been converted at some point to a disc brake setup if it's not an inno or authi.
