Looking for a classic Mini...

Hello,

I am looking for an older Mini in decent condition to use as a fun
and economical daily driver. I am 16 years old, so my funds are
limited. What I am trying to find is a Mini with bad paint and some
rust, but still runs decent and has heat. Just something that is
cheap and may need some work.

My name is Jake Perkins and you can
contact me at Subaru360Lover@yahoo.com

Thanks, and have a nice day.

Not sure where you are at... but check on Minimania.com under the cars for sale section. There are quite a few for sale by private sellers all over as well as several dealers that might be able to help. I bought mine fro Pete and Alistar at WestPaMinis (a link to their site is on the dealers page at MM.) They are fantastic. Cheapest they have in stock is about $5200 I believe. You might try posing your question over on the message board of MM as well as there is a much larger Classic communitee there than here. Be sure to include where you are as well as a ballpark of what you want to spend and I'm sure you will get some leads.

Welcome to the madness

He has a very solid red Australian Mini for around $5,500 that would make an excellent starter car. I've driven it and it runs well. Whatever you do, buy the best body shell you can find. It'll pay dividends in the end by saving you tons of time, work and cash. Even if you must pay more up front.

Hi again,

My budget is much lower than that price, probably around ~$3000. If I look long enough, I can probably find something for that.

Have a Happy New Year.

I have a car in the $3700.00 range in Knoxville Tn. See 1974 project thread on MM for more info. I really don't think you will find a driver in that price range but you may if you watch the listings carefully.

For $3K you'll have a car that needs much work either body or mechanical, or both. As stated ,buy the best BODY shell you can find and worry less about the mechanical because its much easier to fix.

I've watched progress on queenB's project Mini via the net and suggest that it would be an excellent starting point for a newbie if you have (or wish to develop) the necessary skills. I certainly would consider buying it if I were in the position to get another.

To own a classic Mini you WILL need to be your own auto shop and roadside assistance. Necessary tools, space, knowledge (that'll come) and especially commitment. Or have someone near who can assist with these things. There are many classic Mini clubs around the US. Contact the nearest one for help.

Jake, good for you, you'll find that putting work in a car will make a bond for you & your old school Mini like no other, but first I'd get a book or two on DIY or How to Buy a older Mini. It'll tell you where to look for rust that's no good very bad, maybe even help you choose what model, sedan, van, wagon, truck,or moke. Anyway good luck on your search & enjoy your project. I know I love my 67 Austin Mini as much, maybe more then my 04 JCW MC it sure gets more attention from the public then the new one. Also don't be in a hurry you'll find the right Mini just for you and it'll be Magic.

Hey jake

If you are looking for a mini in the $3000 range.

I would think about getting a cheap car (not a mini) that would be your daily driver, somthing that is cheap to insure and that is reliable. A car that you can get for about $1000 to $1500 just to get you around.

I dont think you are going to get a mini that is reliable enough to be your daily driver for $3000, then after you get the cheap car save your money and get a mini. But get a mini with a solid body it will save you alot over time.

Hi,

I already decided that I will probably sitck with a bit more of a normal car, due to the price of a Mini. I have been looking for a Toyota or Mitsubishi Van for a while.

Thanks for all your help,
Jake Perkins
