2 different guage problems

I've got a couple guage problems with a 61 Morris Cooper. The first with the fuel guage. The sending unit is a mini mania FUL102 mated to a stand alone smith fuel guage. There is no voltage stabilizer present on the car. Gauge to ground reads a full tank. The guage reads over full with a full tank and 1/4 tank when empty. Will a voltage stabilizer wix this issue? I was looking at the mini mania BR1307-00 or is there an alternative fix?

Second problem. The odometer only moves tenths, no other numbers move. Any ideas to fix this? I have the guage out sittting on the table.

Thanks,

The Fuel Guage problem sounds like a stabilizer issue, alright, and there are two basis Smiths types that are actually the same but mount to the back of the Guage in differing ways (essentially a Mk.I and a Mk.II version) so if the Mk.I version for your car is unavailable, the Mk.II version will work if you mount it in a different place ...

... The Smiths Speedo unit is always going to break - you just don't know when - and it is possible for the odometer part to pack-it-in even though the speedometer part is working fine; If you can't fine a replacement, you can have Nissonger rebuild it ( try here : http://www.nisonger.com/ and don't let the Cobra stuff scare you off - they rebuild Smiths guages) ... depending on what you find on eBay, rebuilding may actually be cheaper.

Hey 8ball -

Love your Triumph.

I ride one myself - a '95 Daytona 1200. Good to see others also riding bikes!!

... thanks, Churchy, and if this was the "All Triumph" thread, i'd tell ya that your new ones are pretty spiffy, too ( road that new speed triple the other day ... what a trip!) But without all that Smiths and Lucas stuff on'em, they're just too civillized !

yeah - and you never have to put newspaper on the garage floor either!!

I love the new Triumph Thruxton too - have you seen that? It's a 900cc 'cafe racer'. Basically they took a bonney and put clip-ons on it and gave it a gunfighter-type seat.

Check it out: "http://www.triumph.co.uk/usa/784.aspx"
