Run the VIN through a Classic Mini VIN decoder. This will give you some info on the car.

You'll want to get a SU carburetor balancing kit.

If you use the following link(s), it'll help you decipher the VIN and break it down to certain areas of the car to help understand it more.
Part 1: 1959-1980 https://www.minimania.com/Mini_Chass...rt_I__Revised_
Part 2: 1980-2000 https://www.minimania.com/Mini_Chass...mbers__Part_II

If you click this link, you can order a providence of the car. It almost does the same thing as the VIN decoder. It's basically a certificate that gets mailed to you to officially verify the break down. You have to pay a small fee for this, but it's a nice little bit to have if you're really into the car. https://www.britishmotormuseum.co.uk...e-certificates
