Classic Mini History - Timeline Questions

I have a few questions about the history of the classic mini and I'm sure that some of you do too.
So feel free to recycle this topic for your own questions if you want.

Here's mine:
  1. - What year and model mini was the first to offer headrests?
  2. - What year and model mini was the first to offer air conditioning?
  3. - I thought that the early 1970 Mini Cooper S MKII was the last of the MKIIs, but according to this page the MKII continued on as the Australian Morris Mini K 1100 (Kangaroo) until 1972. Is this correct? Or am I missing something?

Well I got a page on my site thats pretty accurate with the dates of which models were produced and the differences.

But I still can't copy and paste onto this board for some reason aarrrhhhhhh

However,
I still don't see any info on headrests or air conditioning.
And your guide does not mention the early 1970 Mini Cooper S MKII
Or the Mini K 1100 being a MKII for that matter.
Or at least I didn't see it.

Well no British built Mini's had air conditioning. They were just bog standard heaters and open ya window if your hot lol

Aircon is an after market recent addition to UK cars I'm afraid.

If there's no data on the CooperS you need it's still in the pipeline to go on the site. Sorry if it's not there. The models are listed but not all have full spec or any on there as yet. It's a newish section to the site so it's still being updated.

As for headrests, I believe the first to have them was the first Limited Edition if you can call it that, which was the Mini Mayfair. This came out as the upmarket version of the City.

Although not technically a Limited Edition, we tend to think of it as that, because no other marquee had the luxurious interior (yea right, velour seats and headrests)lol

Now the 1100 Special is not a Mk2. It's just another Limited Edition, but with an 1100 engine rather than the 998cc standard engine, and was produced in 1979.

If you scroll down the page on the following link to below the photo of EJB then you'll see information on all the Cooper S's produced. That site is pretty accurate regards information on them.

Thanks for the info on the A/C and headrests.
The 1100 that I was referring to is the Austalian Mini "K"
I found a picture of one that was for sale here:

As you can see, it is a Clubman
so I guess the last of the "REAL" Mini MKIIs was the early 1970 Mini Cooper "S"

..hope I didn't offend any Clubman fans there ..

I just found this info:

March 1969 Morris Mini 1100K (Kangaroo) - Unknown number of cars produced. This was the first Australian Mk2 Mini, although it was really more like our MK1. 1098cc engine (50bhp), dished padded steering wheel with 'BMC' centre logo, three dial central instruments, alternator, and for the first time in Australian Mini's an all synchro gearbox with standard 998 differential (3.765:1). Drum brakes all round, optional heater (!) and the Mk1 Mini derived Australian doors with outside hinges, wind-up windows (with similar internal door/winders handles to those used on the UK Mk3 Riley Elf/Wolselsey Hornet). Mk2 style plain bumpers (no overriders/corner bars), Mk1 Morris Cooper grille & moustache, Mk2 round Morris bonnet badge, Mk1-style bootlid with fold-down number plate (smaller than UK type), and Mk1 rear lights. Named 'Kangaroo' in the spirit of the Ford Mustang and Plymouth Barracuda. Sold a number of colours, including White, Aubergine (described as "dusky mulberry") and Portofino Gold (strong yellow/orange). Upholstery colours included Champagne (beige) and Black. Badged as a 'Morris Mini 1100' (with three separate badges) on boot only. Sold for $1780 (Australian dollars) when a Holden HK (Aussie Vauxhall Viva) cost $2300 and a Toyota Corolla cost $1720.
