Toyota 4 Runner meets side of classic red mini. Ouch

I know of a driving instructor at my last driving school event that used to race classic minis and when asked if he'd drive a classic again he said in today's auto traffic he would feel it's too small to be safe.

Rest assured that your new MINI has significantly enhanced modern safety features to allow you to be less injured in the event with a close encounter with an SUV.

I wonder if it is against the law to drive a classic mini with a helmet on?
(Snell 2000 rated of course )

Looks like this one is in El Salvador (look at the plates). It is possible the driver survived, notice how the interior is (somewhat) in tact. Even if they did, tho, I would think their is a high probability that he/she suffered significant injuries

....As much as I love classic Minis, I'll take our MINIs any day for driving on public roads. Love those air bags!!

Have a friend who was rear-ended in a classic by a pizza delivery guy (in a hurry, no doubt). Passenger got hurt. Kinda scarey.

I got rear-ended in a classic by a cab (several years ago). Broke both the boot hinges so my boot lid had to be removed (poor student and all that). I continued driving that car for some time after that. I had my license plate strung on some fencing wire across the gaping hole at the back of the car.

The classic mini isn't an "unsafe" car. It's the legions of mouth-breathing idiots (usually not paying attention) and driving their tanks that I worry about. I drive mine like I would drive a motorcycle - you've got to always watch out for other people...you'd think with a bright red car, huge flag on the roof, and cherry bomb for an exhaust that they'd either see me or hear me!

I'll take my classic Mini out any time. Just gotta realize that you're driving a 1500 pound car whereas Driver "X" is in a 5000 pound Ford Excursion. Not only do they not know where they are, but they probably don't even know you're there.

Now I have a set of air horns to put in my car. They'll hear me one way or another!

Don't forget that 'driver X' is probably on the cell phone also!

I sort of drive my Mini also like a motorcycle. You have to. Defensive driving I think it's called. That being said I would not want to be in a collision with a classic Mini. It looked like a tin can protection wise. No steel crossbeams, airbags. I know a 4runner weighs at least 4000 pounds. Not a good contest for the classic Mini. One thing for sure though is people in other countries drive like total maniacs.
