There were several 4WD Minis built, for real, back then. But, and this may give you nightmares, they did it by putting a second Mini power unit at the back.

John Cooper built a road car for himself I believe - 180hp in a car weighing a lot less than a modern Mini must have been exciting.

And then in a plan to make the Mini Moke off-roader more capable and possibly of interest to the British Army, they put two power plants in one of those - generally referred to as a "Twini". And please look at the number of shift levers - at least John Cooper made both 'boxes change gear together.

That thing is hideous! Love this line in the ad though, "Probably not best as daily driver.". You think?!? Haha
