Got me a classic-ish one

Hey all, I'm usually nosing around in the R53 section, but I just got stationed in Okinawa and picked up this lovely little lady she's a little rough around the edges, but the engines still strong! She's a '96 Rover Mini, I assume 1300cc, 4 on the floor 77,xxx Kilos on her... Got a few questions though. Do engine mounts go bad very often on these? If so, how hard are they to change, because it sounds/feels like a worn engine mount on this thing. Thanks in advance!

Well, they are not the easiest to replace but you can do it with a reasonable set of tools. The hardest part, in my opinion, is lining up the bolt holes in the subframe when you're trying to install the new mounts.

Do yourself a favor and remove the grill so you can get a good look at both engine mounts. It's possible that the mounts are just fine but the dogbone engine steady (mounts to left hand side of head as you're looking at the engine from the front) is either destroyed or worn out. A typical way to stiffen up the engine is to install engine steadies (more dogbones) on the under side of the engine. This will remove all of the slop that's still there when the engine mounts are in good shape.

Good luck and welcome!

Roger that, I'll check it out this weekend when I have some time to get in there another question for all you guys, I have this button on the dash, far left side, has the "brake" symbol on it, curious what it is. I've noticed when I press it, nothing happens, and when I reconnect one of the wires on the brake fluid resivoir, it turns on and doesn't turn off, but I have plenty of fluid.

That's a bit newer 'technology' than what's in my '73, but I think you're referring to this: brake warning light switch

With that knowledge I would do a bit of hunting around with Google and see what you can fine. I found this post but I can't tell if it's for the same thing - you should be able to use that as a starting point anyway.

Edit: and this post has some good info too.

Have fun!
