Restoring My 1987 Mini Park Lane.

Hello there I am now ready to start the restoration process on my Mini Park Lane, but first want to get some advice.

I really want to change the color but am afraid that will affect the value. Can anyone offer some advice on what to do and what not to do in order to restore her and keep, if not add to, her value.

BTW I would never sell this, it would be like selling a faithful dog!! But I do want to do right by her.

Thanks in Advance.

What kind of restoration are you planning to do - total, ground up or just a few cosmetics to make it look pretty again?

If you're going to change the paint color, just make sure you do it right - pull the engine and paint everything to match, just like the factory did. If you just paint the exterior, the door jambs, trunk, engine compartment etc will all be a different color from the body - that will affect the value - so will a cheap paint job, even if it matches.

I guess my point is there are no shortcuts, either do it right or don't do it, or buy a car that's already done - it will be less expensive.

MiniDave,, thanks for your response!!
I just want to restore the body because the interior is actually in really good shape!! I may have seat covers made but since the upholstery has no stains and worn parts I plan on leaving it. I will def have it restored professionally. But are you saying if I have it properly painted (jams and all) golden brown instead of black the value will not go down??? Cause that would be great news.
I guess I was thinking if I changed the color that it would not be a "restoration".

Congrats on the car. Probably the best single thing you can do to get some good advice is to post a whole bunch of pictures here and let us look at the car to see what condition it is in. There is some value to an original car with original paint, if the paint and body work is decent. But it is difficult to know what advice to give without either more specific information on the condition of the car or pics to show the good, bad and ugly.
