windshield washer bottle?
windshield washer bottle?
I need a new washer bottle because mine has a crack in it. I thought I ordered the correct one but it is to big. The smaller on that is on the car is the one I need replaced. The bigger one outside the car is just a reference. The bigger on is a 1970 through 1980 washer bottle. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on where to get the one I need.
Thanks
Thanks
those all specifically say the smaller size as used on MK1 MK2 as compared to the larger on later models . . . and that's the only two sizes I find for the pre-90's (I think the TUDOR will NOT fit now that I read more of the bla bla ... it at least needs a different size plug)
looks like the critical measurement is the neck . . 1.25 inches diameter?
looking at the MOSS parts catalog I find only two washer bottles. One for the MK1 MK2, and one for later, until much later Rover where the shape isn't close and the tank is in the boot (as I read Haynes) {It appears very early Mini used a bag and not a bottle .... for historians. MOSS lists the bag for those applications anyway.}
Can't you return the one you bought and ask them to send the other one?
I ordered an overflow tank for my GEN1-S once and accidentally ordered the one for a Justa. I called and they took it back and sent me the right one, I paid shipping and the price difference - I had no complaints there. My mistake, not their's.
Now there IS another possibility. Since I don't see any sort of a clamp holding your bottle into place and the cap and connections don't look like anything I've seen b4 it is possible you have a generic bottle that fit stuffed in a convenient location and a home made set of pipes (screw clamp and rubber hose is not original I'm sure)
In which case you can either refit a correct bottle and clamp, OR just go find a water bottle of approriate size (esp the opening). There's nothing particularly fancy about the Mini washer system. Any bottle with the same diameter filler will allow the cap/hose to fit and will work, once you make it fit. (This applies to this case . . . a later MK3 or 4 has a bottle that slides into a clamp and the bottle needs to be properly shaped to fit into that clamp.)The washer pump is a simple suction pump, the bottle is not pressurized so no biggie.

lets see, thanks for the input.
yes I can return it. I am not worried about that.
it mounts from the back like later minis
I modified the hose coming out.
all I am wondering is if anyone knows where I can get a new one.

Give Heritage Garage a try. I have what looks like the same bottle on my '75 that wedges in place on the back, and I ordered parts for the pickup that sits in the bottle (but not the bottle itself) from them several years ago. Take a look at their website www.heritage garage.com. Go to Parts, then Body Panels, then Dash and Windscreen Washers. They also can sometimes scrounge a part for you from their used parts. Good luck!
