Vin Number
Vin Number
Is there any place I can enter a mini Vin Number and get accurate model, and option information?
Or in other words, how can you prove a John Cooper Works is really what it is advertised to be?

Depends on the year MINI you are looking at really.
Most 1st Gen MINI's came with a new replacement decal badge for the valve cover with embossed serial number for the kit which is registered to the car's vin with MINI. There were two kits available, the latter consisting of a different style airbox/filter, larger injectors and engine management software.
Kits installed after delivery would at the very least have a certificate of authenticity.
2nd Gen kit for the R56 consists of an exhaust and air intake / filter and DME reprogramming.
If still some doubt and absent documentation, you can always take it to your local MINI dealer for an inspection.

Well 1st I don't have a mini dealor anywhere near by.
We bought a 1998 John Cooper Works.
The car was retitled as a 79 for the purpose of importing it. So I guess the vin number would be a phony.
We are trying to find something on the car that would prove it is a John Cooper Works.
