New engine in classic mini?

I'm new to the forum and have driven an 04 MC for the last 6 years. I am considering buying a classic mini and had a thought the other day. I'm just curious and I doubt it's even possible, but could a new Mini (BMW) engine and drive train be fitted into an 80's or 90's classic Mini? Is this even physically possible? Thanks for any input.

I suppose anything is possible with enough money but for practicality's sake, no it is not possible.

Possibilities for increasing BHP in a Mini (BMW MINI's are MINI's, not Mini's fyi) include upgrading the A series engine with any combination of increasing Bore, different pistons, porting and polishing, hot Cams, upgraded rockers, exhaust, etc. Then there are options of adding forced induction to A series engines. Finally there is the possibility of adding a 16 valve head to the A series block.

As far as fitting completely different engines/transmissions, the 2 standard options are Honda V-Tech conversions (with or without stretching the front end) or fitting a motorcycle engine of all things:

Do lots of research before buying a Classic Mini. It can be a love/hate relationship and will take lots of time and money to own a car that isn't likely to be fit for reliable transportation.

there are many other engine options that would go into a mini much easier and aloso produce the same or more HP than the MINI.

...what they said. You are more than welcome to try however as it would be cool

The thing most people forget is that you don't need much extra HP to take a classic to 11 on the fun meter. The car only weighs in at below 2000 lbs so the power to weight quickly moves into the nuts realm (and into the area where you begin to blow past usable HP numbers.)

And as long as you're picking nits, it's VTEC, not V-Tech

Awe VTEC. Put one of those in a classic and lose the british charm. That is, you will go out to the garage and start the car--everytime, without fail.

I just leave one of the battery cables loose to keep some of the British feeling.
