998 Saloon Exhaust - Need to make quick decision!

I recently placed an order with one of the Classic Mini parts suppliers in the US. I was called today and told that due to the size of the package it qualifies as an oversized box and that I had to pay the extra shipping charge even though I qualified for free shipping on my order - so much for Plan "A". It was in the fine print of the sale - I just did not see it. The exhaust is the single piece dual box exhaust that is standard on the 998cc saloon mini. Oversize is apparently any package that is greater then in 130" in length + girth. The exhaust cost was $120 + discount. The shipping charge is $110.

My question is what other exhaust options are available that might cost me less than what I am currently signed up to pay:

Aluminized Exhaust + Shipping + Installation H'ware = $250

Are there better options that the single piece design? The one on the car will need to be replaced. A rebuilt car witha rust exhaust has little appeal.

I need to make a decision and call them back tonight so that my whole order is not held up...

Thanks!

What's shipping on an freeflow exhaust? Check around the various Mini suppliers for RC40, Maniflow, SuperFlow, or similar. They come in shorter segments. http://www.7ent.com/detail.cfm?pageid=2284 Although they may be more expensive, at least you're paying for something other than shipping....

or http://www.7ent.com/detail.cfm?pageid=2490 and weld it back together

Stage 1 kit in lieu of replacing stock exhaust?

Well I looked around some more and based on the shipping for an oversize package I cancelled the exhaust order thinking there are better options.

I do not need the exhaust for some time, as I am still tearing the car down to go to the body shop. I ordered because my order qualified for free shipping and I thought his would be a good cost save.

Now I am thinking that my best bet might be to invest in a Stage 1 kit for my 998cc engine - exhaust, manifold, air filter, carb needle, etc. and kill two birds witn one stone.

For those that have installed a Stage 1 kit on a 998 engine, there are claims of 10 - 20% more power and torque - does this investment make sense?

Any increase in power makes good sense......as for the stage 1, it's a good place to start if you have a small budget or just want to build up power slowly. Good luck!
