vtec builders please help
vtec builders please help
I am compiling parts for my own MTD build and have a few questions. I have an 88 LHD saloon. I have compiled the d16z6 motor and trans (ex trans with 3.25 FD and OBX LSD) combo already. I also have the entire civic car so I can pull parts at will.
[1. Is there another option to cutting and patching together my intake manifold? I saw a MINI TEC intake manifold on a message forum. Is that item available anywhere? I do not want to cut and install silicone hoses. That seems like it will kill air flow.
2. What did you guys do to the rear end to match up the suspensions?
3. Since I am on a budget (isn't everyone) I will be upgrading parts over time. I plan to upgrade the radiator at a later date as well as the super brake kit. I also plan to replace the mini wiring harness with the harness from the civic (entire car). I was planning to do the MTD basic + coilovers + poly mounts + axle upgrade. Is there any other must do items to get me up and running before I can invest more money? (A-arm upgrade? Reprogram ecu? etc.)
4. What fuel pump are you running and is it in stock tank?
5. Can someone post pics of how your steel front flip is put together? I want to have a front flip, but was told that the standar length fiberglass unit is poor fitment quality.

- Don't know - Dmini might know.
- Took to suspension shop at Infineon Raceway and had them dyno the Koni 3012's to "balance" / tune - added red springs from Seven.
- Not adviseable on the civic rewiring - you'd be obsoleting much and have more time and money in the OEM kit. Hot Rod kits are not expensive and more fit your application. Basic is basic.
- Mini Tec supplied my fuel pump so I don't know which one it is BUT it is in the tank.
- NA - I have fiber glass and from what I understand it's not so much the fiberglass as it is the Mini production tolerances. This is not a chore for the meek at heart for sure.
Hope something I've written can be of help.
Thanks, that was good help. I did ask minitec, but they gave me no real answers about the suspension or fuel pump. They did tell me that they are working on producing dminis manifold. so thats good news.
I am contemplating getting custom konis vs the minitec coils for the front so that I know what they are at least (and adjustable).
I saw that gbcarparts sells just rear sets of coils, does anyone sell rear coilovers? I would rather have that style setup if possible.

The opinion of Performace Shock of Infineon was that the horizontal spring set up was a better product than coil overs as I had the opportunity to change...for what it's worth.
Dmini's manifold should be done already as he is to pick the truck up by months end...so we've been told.

IF performance is as good as looks, I'll be a very happy customer. I'll post my impressions on intake & other components soon. At this point, I can't answer jeepsters questions other than my opinion on electricals... I agree w/Meno that a simple, full wiring harness is better than modding an OEM Honda harness to fit the simple needs of a 50-year old design. Swapping to a Vtec engine is not a simple conversion. I'd consider myself an average, amatuer wrench, and thought of doing a Vtec conversion is beyond my pain threshhold.
Good Luck, Jeepster, and keep us posted.
