It is awesome that you and your son are doing this together. He will cherish it and the Mini the rest of his life. I could never part with mine just because I was your son's age when my dad did the same exact thing over 35 years ago. Great work!

This was my car, I got it in '68 and AFAIK it was original. It was a German export model I think because it had a steering column lock with the German words for start and run etc. It was a 1071 with dual carbs, and it said Austin Cooper S on the boot lid.

The color was my choice, originally it was white. When I got it it had been hit on the left side; I was given a shell that was hit on the right side and a friendly body shop took the left side (center only, seam to seam) out of it and put it into mine - cost me $400 but well worth it to get a door and side window that actually fit again. I stripped it to bare metal and traded some mechanical repairs to a guy for the paint job.

I have a thread here on the car, but since I linked the photos from another site, they're missing from the post now. I have only a couple of old photos taken back in the day, this was one of them. The exhaust is not stock, nor is the dash as I made one from a flat aluminum sheet and added several gauges - a tach, temp, oil press and ammmeter. I also redid the interior in all black with a kit I bought from one of the Mini parts purveyors of the time, could have been Mini City but I'm not sure.......

However, the only mod I made to the body was to add the flares and the paint color.

It had front discs too, the tiny little ones!

Here's the thread.........https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=135819

Sorry about the picture - do not know what happened there

The headlight holder appeared to be riveted; however, one side is loose and the other side appears to be intact. I wanted to be sure that I was not missing something, as my thought process was more along the lines of this car being something that could be torn down and bolted back together - without requiring being riveted back together - call me naive! I wanted to post a picture from the inside of the fender but my connection tonight is so sssllllooooowwwwwww.........

Learning new things everyday. I just hope all the pictures I have taken will help me get the car back together

Thanks for all the help. Next I have to figure out how to get the heater/blower out of the car. Essentially everything else is out of the inside and I am down to the a few odds and ends and the subframes thereafter

Makes the whole assembly process look daunting!!!!

Heater comes out pretty easily. I am sure it will make its way known once you get it all cleared out. Use the forums as your rebuild diary. Everyone likes to watch You will find a lot of help here.. Most of us have had our Minis completely apart at one time (or two) or another. Keep the pictures coming
