As promised, here are pics of my Mini with the bonnet stripes on and everything reassembled.

These 2 cars are actually identical in color. I guess the light hitting at different angles makes them look different.

I'm so jealous. I really really really want a left hand drive classic that looks just like that (well, doesn't have to be that exact color, but you know what I mean.)

Hey Agro,

When you get time, why not shoot some combo photos of your classic w/the R53? That would be very cool.

Fun! That red steering wheel is sorta distracting though... Wish I had the ***** to dissassemble a car and totally repaint it like that.

Did you do all that yourself?

Looks realy good.

I like the factory wheel arches and the minilites too. Just the look I'm going for too.

And yes, I'm gonna do all my own work too!!!!

Red steering wheel? The steering wheel is neon orange! It's brighter than the car! I guess the light through the tint makes it look much darker than it is.
I will take some pics of my 2 cars together, but I have to get the 03 clean first.
The classic was pretty easy to strip for painting. I took out all the glass, all the trip, the seats except the drivers seat and all the badging was removed. All the chrome was removed and all the lights. Stripping it took about 4 hours total.

Then I drove it to a guy who removed all the rust and welded up all the areas where there had been rust. Then it went to paint, the drivers seat was removed and they painted it the brightest non-metallic orange I could find a factory paint code for.

I drove it home, ordered a bunch of parts from several sources and put it back together. I guess I spent about 15-20 solid hours on reassembly. Much easier to remove bits than put them on.

The brand new arches were paid for by a mechanic who backed a BMW into the front corner of the car and broke one of the flares. The Minilites came with the car and I think look perfect on there.

I paid $550 for the bodywork/rust removal and $1100 for the paint. I'm totally happy with those prices and think I got a steal on both. The car owes me about 7 grand total, and I'm very happy.

Thanks for all the kind words guys.

$7K? I call that happy ownership. Very nice, indeed. Neon orange steering wheel? Wow, it really shows as red. What brand of wheel is it? (I really do think I want one--red, though). The minilites and stock arches look superb. Good call on aesthetics.

The steering wheel was a birthday present from my wife. Came from an English ebay seller. At the time, the same seller had them in several colors. I'll have a look for a brand next time I go outside.

Under the bonnet? I don't wanna show it. It's not clean like all you guys show off. It's a 1275, though it's not the original engine and I don't know for sure what year it's out of.

The steering wheel is by Mountney, which seems to be a known manufacturer of steering wheels for Minis and other old British cars.

You asked for it, so here is an under bonnet picture.

I know the picture makes it look yellow, but it isn't. REALLY!
