so the show-and-display thing you can only drive 2500 miles or something? what's the fun in that? i see and come across plenty of lhd and rhd classics already here that i don't really see the need to go thru all the red tape. sure it'd be awesome to get one of the special editions but what's the fun if you can't drive it? the jdm people figured out a lot of loopholes and cheats to bring in cool cars for japan and i see 'em w/ fair frequency on LA streets, especially in the really asian parts. mothballing isn't that fun; must drive

minicoopermike,

That's an interesting list that you provided the link to. Actually, I could see owning one of the last 50 and keeping the mileage down to 2500 p/year. It would be interesting to see what level, if any, cooperation there is or would be between the UK export side and US Customs. Definitely a transaction for the experienced. In your original post, I think you made a hypothetical purchase price of $10K USD-- I haven't checked prices on year 2000 Rovers, but somehow I think the last 50 produced might fetch considerably more than $10K.

Mini Cooper S Works

British racing green, Oct 2000, with silver roof and stripes, full leather interior, including parcel shelf and dash, john cooper stainless dash and matching door capings, full service history and genuine 22500 miles, one non smoking owner, full years mot and taxed until April £7,500 Tel: (07725) 074664. Email: coraliejones@btinternet.com. (Hampshire) (P)
  • Price: £7,500
By today's conversion, that would put it about $15300 before shipping, taxes, import fees, etc. And I don't believe this is even one of the last 50. I saw a couple for sale while I was shopping. one was just over 7k GBP and the other one was over 8k.

Thanks! Yeah, I was just using a nice round number. The prices are definitely more like $15-20K for a nice Sport Pack car (non-JCW) and $16-30K for a JCW car.............if you can find one.

Nice Equinox model (1996)! Love the purple color, which seems pretty rare on the classics.
