1996 rover mini
1996 rover mini
I'm in japan, and just bought a 96 mini, but the owners manual is in japanese, and well i can't read it. Is there anywhere I can find an english copy? also, I would like to change the oil and filter and just perform some other general maintenance this weekend. Does anyone know which filters are compatible, and the recommended oil to use? Thanks

20-50w noted, thanks. That's a corner marker, I'm not used to right hand drive or the tiny dimensions of the mini, so it comes in handy. well, it's bed time for me, thanks for all your help, and I look forward to popping in and out of here.
i want a classinc mini body like that i dint know theyve made them that body style until 00 .....can anyone guide me as to where to buy one or get one imported ...i know i can find old old like 70's minis around but i would love to have a semi recently made one
Talk with Peter Cavallo over at WestPA Minis. http://www.westpaminis.com Even if you don't end up buying from him he's a great guy and can tell you what you need to know.
Nice mini by the way - I always loved the 35th anniversary model! (I'm a big fan of almond green anyway)
As for oil filters I've used several. Many will fit, but I found for my injected car (and probably the same for you) that you need a shorter filter as the injection and carburrettor subframes are slightly different. The one I use is Fram PH966B. My "old" filter that I used on my '71 fit just fine on the housing but it was too long, and therefore really difficult to get in and out. The 966B I can fit in there even with my gorilla hands.
Check out www.minisport.com or www.minimania.com - or amazon. Haynes makes a manual that covers right up to 2000 I believe. Anything before BMW's launch of the new MINI in 2002 is considered classic.
As for oil, I concur - been using 20-50w here in Hawaii for 7 years and it works great. That seems to be the oil most folks use in the Mini. (I was told it was more because our engines and gearboxes share the same oil)

While you are waiting for your copy of the Haynes manual, you can check out a somewhat full version here...
