Hello

I have recently joined this forum. I have spent many days looking and reading before asking. Anyway I haven't been able to tell if the Classics or the rovers are in general more reliable? I have heard that fixing the enine on Classics is easier but the rovers are still more reliable.
Has anyone heard about re-vins getting caught in California while trying to register?
Are all 1990's re-vins?

Hey strider,

Sounds like you're a Californian. I'd recommend getting in touch with some of the MOALA members. I think they have lots of members and within the membership, virtually every model and variant is represented. They have regular meetings. Talking in person with some of these folks may yeild much more info than here on NAM. I think you have good questions and I'm tempted to answer some, but truthfully, I lack the years of experience with "classics" to answer other than with my opinion. Opinions come cheap. I can tell you that not all Rovers are ReVins, though. I talked to an owner who has a 1996 that somehow passed into the US with it's correct VIN, make and model. Personally, I would not want a gray market car less than 25 years old that is registered w/DMW as being that.

If anyone owns a Classic mini and a 90's Rover mini could you please give me input on what you find runs or works better? Second hand knowlege would help too. thanks

If you live in california please be careful. The laws are much more restrictive there - I believe your car has to be pre 73. It would be very, very, very difficult to find a Mini that would pass a smog check! You also might want to check out the MOASF folks in the bay area...depending on how far north you are.

My SPi (single point injection) car starts easier and runs better than my '66 S - but that's only because the S isn't tuned properly. A carburreted mini can be set up to run quite well. Don't forget though that with the injected cars there's no real support here in the USA. Most of the parts you would need (unless they're here) would have to come from England - that being said, you'll find that true with most of the stuff you need for any Mini. At some point you may have to order it from the UK.
