MiniMac, I work at a collision shop here in Kenosha, Wisconsin. I personally have over 10 years experience in this trade with many references available. I could do the repair and save you about 50% of your $400 insurance check. 100% satisfaction with a paint match gaurantee, along with a lifetime warranty.

You might just feel better having a fellow Mini enthusiast doing the repair. I will be attending the Spring drive, so , if you are interested, we could talk more....

I agree that Patrick does excellent work and would recommend them highly. They replaced/repainted all exterior pieces forward of the windscreen due to trying to be in the same place at the same time with a deer. You would be hard pressed to see that any work was done.

  • ambulance ride - $300-$500
  • ER visit - $500-$1000
  • CT Scan (for my neck) - ???
Per my wife, who works at the hospital I was taken to, the total bill may top $2000. I'm not paying for that. The other INS company is gonna pay that.
Wow, sorry for your pain dude, that had to hurt

No problem MiniMac, I know I am a bit out of the way.

But, if any Chicagoland Mini owner ever needs anything painted, installed, or anything automotive related, I can offer huge savings over your run of the mill shop. That includes aero kits, Supercharger pullies, exhaust, etc....

O.K., I am done trying to sell myself

Thanks for your input pdflint

that's another vote for Patrick. I actually got a postcard from them to make a follow-up appointment for a part on back-order. Hopefully I'll get to talk to Adam and ask him about the body shop.

Thanks chows4us

It could've been worse, so I'm not complaining too much. First, I'm glad I was the only one in the car. Second, I'm feeling fine. No aches other than work . I'm going to give it another couple days before I do anything too physical. then it's back to normal. I'm still going to hold out on the Pain & Suffering claim just to be safe.

Actually, the accident occurred about a mile east of 294. It takes me 30 minutes to get to the Kenosha outlet mall (another 10 minutes to where I get my Powerball tics ) so you're not that far out.

I was considering an aero kit at some point.. if I don't like the repair, I'll keep you in mind. I don't know if I'll get it repaired before the Poker Run, we'll see. Thanks again

im sorry to hear about your accident. and those chicago cops are a pita
sometimes.

but what kind of a pos insurance company says that?

my statefarm just took care of everything when my wife got struck in
her car while some lady backed into her in the parking lot. was over $5k in
damages, but used my insurance. The car was repaired at a toyota
certified bodyshop, got my full deductible back (was the other lady's fault),
and got rental car money too. At the end, i had like over $200 in my pocket...
that's like a nice sushi dinner for two with sake.

Thanks Ken

The CHGO cop didn't show up so the tic got dropped that time. I performed traffic school on the net for the speeding tic.

oh.. my insurance is State Farm... since they're independent from one another, the service you get varies. I've used them since I started driving. They know me and my family for over 30 years. My wife uses SF also, but has a different agent.

I just realized as I was backing into my garage today that I completely forgot another rear-end collision I had. You'll like this one guys...

I was backing up on my driveway (which btw is shared with my neighbor...) after arriving home from a trip to the Dells. We're half way up the driveway when I notice my neighbor jump into his car. Next thing I know, he's barrelling down the driveway in reverse .. BANG what an @sswipe!!! I have an accident IN MY OWN DRIVEWAY!?!?!? Totally his fault of course. I get a call from the Ins agent and they're asking me why I didn't honk my horn to prevent the accident Are you kidding me? my friendly neighbor failed to accurately explain it was his fault. They were trying to get out of paying for it. In the end, they paid.

We're still neighbors on the same driveway. He can kiss my @ss. Some neighbor. He still drives like a moron.

MiniMac2005- I think i know what you mean...

I had an EVIL statefarm agent when i lived out in LA... he was quite
nice until one day he turned to the darkside. not sure what happened;
apparently he had a fight with his office manager or something and
everything turned very sour including his service and dedication to
his job and customers. One time I called him for assistance and
he was like "so? what do you want me to do?" kind of attitude...

luckily, I was already on my way out of CA so when I moved
back to my hometown here in the Chicago burbs, I asked my
original agent to help me out again.

He's been with me since the late 80's. and he's definitely
a keeper.

** Update **

I visited to Patrick Collision Center on Sat morning and made an appointment to have my car fixed next week (after the CMMC Poker Run... gotta have priorities right ). The guy said if it's going to take more than 2 days, he'll contact the adjuster and work it out then. It doesn't look so bad afterall... until I washed it.

So I got the check in the mail today from the Ins company to fix the bumper $ 400. I need to decide whether to sign off on the Pain & Suffering settlement now. It's not much.. but I feel fine. I consider myself lucky. As I was filling out the paperwork at the shop, a young lady walked in for an estimate also. She was involved in a rearend hit & run on the expressway. She didn't go to the hospital and is paying for it now (2 months of pain and mounting Dr bills).

Thanks everyone for you concern so far. I'll keep you posted.

Sorry to hear about the accident, glad you are mostly ok. Take it to Adam at Patrick, he can at least give you an estimate.

** Update **

Well... alls well that ends well

I received the pain/suffering check last week. Enough to get the GPS I ordered in time for the Spring Cruise over the weekend.

I picked up my MINI this afternoon from Patrick Collision Center and it looks good as new. The bumper is smooth and shiny. Nice job. In fact, it actually cost $0.50 less than the insurance estimate.

I received the first medical bill. So glad I don't have to pay $2000 for CT scan and ER visit. Waiting for ER Dr, Radiology and Ambulance bills now.

We'll see you all on the roads

Final Update...

I finallly received the last bill related to the accident. For those of you keeping track, here we go:
  • $400 - to body shop (Patrick Collision in Schaumburg )
  • $40 - rental car
  • $2000 - ER visit
  • $300 - ER Dr bill
  • $300 - Radiology Dr bill
  • $800 - Ambulance ride
I had my court date in Skokie for the ticket I received for violating IVC 3-413(a) - No front registration plate (had europlate instead of std plate). Took a pic, showed the judge, ticket dismissed w/o a fine . So other than wasting a half day of PTO, this saga cost me very little .

For those involved in a minor accident, keep this list in mind. For those in a real accident... I hope all parties involved have good insurance, the amounts are sure to double/triple what I've experienced.

Motoring around Chicagoland See you CMMC

One question now that its settled.

I assume the other drivers insurance paid these bills?

If you have health insurance, wouldnt they pay for most all of the hospital bills?

Yes, the other driver has insurance. Good insurance in fact. At first, I thought I would have to go through my insurance to get the medical bills paid. When the medical claim adjuster came out to speak to me, she said to send her ALL of the bills. I asked if I needed to have them go to the insurance first and she said "no". Since the insured was at fault, they would pay for everything. She even gave me envelopes w/postage paid.

I plan on calling this week to confirm receipt and payment of all bills received.
