If I want to get back into autocross (I did it back in '08 with CVO in my VW in Des Plaines) what are my best options?

SCCA's venue is really far for me in Chicago, but when I'm in Nashville it's the only auto-x I've found. Also, with the "first gear" membership, it's not too expensive.

BMW CCA has lots of events and it isn't as far, but it's pricey and there are no events in Nashville

Maybe just do both? :D

Blackhawk is THE track for our MINIs. Love that track....

 

It's a blast! You should come out to an event even if you just want to watch Sunday is full blown race cars wheel to wheel it's fun to see and if you want they will take you out to a corner station and you can't get a better seat than that. Plus I'm the only Mini racing this year so far
