Track and Autocross guys/gals

Just FYI... Windy City doesn't allow convertibles (unless theyre fully caged) at the Performance Driving Schools... only autocross for the topless (cars).
If you'll each be in different skill level groups, you can use the same car for two drivers!! See you there this spring!

Hey Jim, you took my wife (Lisa) in her Red S 2 years back, I'm trying to talk to her into going again in the spring (now an S topless) and I sold my M3 and bought a JCW I'm planning on coming around more this year. So, I'll see you there (I have a picture of the two of you somewhere) btw....she had a blast with you....

Chicago Region SCCA runs a 2 day Autocross School "The Learning Curve" in early April every year at Route 66 Drag Strip in Joliet. Lots of track time. It costs $120 I think? Great way to get introduced to autocross.
The Learning Curve
Chicago Region Solo drivers school is an excellent way to learn about and become involved in Solo events. It is a two-part school that consists of a classroom session and a day and a half of on track instruction. Instruction will be provided by experienced, award winning drivers (many with National Championship credentials). Because the entry is limited to only 100 students, there will be a very favorable student/teacher ratio allowing for maximum driving time and personal instruction. The school is for novice drivers with less than one year or no solo experience. Students must attend both days. "

I did a BMW windy city event last year. It was pretty fun. Lots of M3's.
I got a nice novice towel.
The only thing I didn't like was the stop box finish. They are pretty **** about it.
I'd def recommend autox events at both Chicago region and TSSCC (tri-state). Both a lot of fun.
The scca also has a few PDX events throughout the season. The ones I attended last year at autobahn and Blackhawk farms were a blast.

I believe maywood is the only site used, so space is tight.
I had fun and would recommend you try it out if you haven't yet.

SimtechDJ- That pic was the stock Dunlop RF's. Ran them 2 track days and have 8k on them now. Fronts just went to the back and are 3/4 worn I would say. They might only see a wet track day. I think I will will order none RF's replacements today the summer Conti's which are the best wet performance tire out there.
Nitto's are mounted on light weight Konig rims. I should have a pic on the camera as I just got back from Thunder Hill. Fresh set for 2 days. Cool out so perfect for heat cycling them in. Only got them to 160 but it was in the 50's. Very predictable and tons of grip. All the tire I currently need. Brakes are a different story.
Last session out I decided to go a personal best time. Came out second in the advanced class and got out front after turn 7 about 1/2 lap and had clear track. Ran another lap at my old time and it was game time. Goal this session was stand on them. Came in fast, broke late and hard and carried scary speeds. Was running a gear higher (4th) through 3, 9 and 10. Ran for 4 or 5 hard laps and got off early as
it was a great two days and I had 660 miles to drive home. Brakes were smoking hot and glazed. Just starting but I ended the session early too. My X10 front and X8 rear setup is probably fine for most and hard track days. Not if you plan on standing on them. Jan is coming out with race pads so I will try them instead of X-12's. I hated my setup on the street for noise so I can't image the x-12's. I did shave 2 sec.s off and set a personal best which was the goal. Sway bar for sure as a more rotation is needed. Best part was passing Lambo and Porsche RS/GT3- which came in on a
custom trailer was race tires the whole works. Had custom exhaust that you could angle based on where the track mic is located to pass the 102 db max. Why I don't track my Maserati- getting passed by a MINI.

Anyone going to Road America April 28th? I'm seriously thinking about it.
Another great track in the area is Blackhawk, in South Beloit--it's perfect for the MINI. LOTS of turns, top speeds aren't that high (I hit maybe 110-115 on the long front straight, everything else is much slower) compared to RA. On the downside, there are spots with very little runoff, and plenty of things to hit, so it's a track to be cautious on.
Hope to see a few of you this year--I'll probably hit RA, Blackhawk, and Autobahn a few times.
Not a huge fan of Gingerman, but I'd love to give Gratton a go....

I'm going to try to make Grattan with Windy City this year, probably depends how high fuel prices go this summer.

The midwest shelby club is there April 28th. The Northwoods shelby club will also be there, this year, and at autobahn, and Blackhawk. For some odd reason, the Mustang people really encourage us to come out--and they are a GREAT group, probably my favorite to run with.
I've run with both Windy City and Badger Bimmer BMWCCA (I'm a member there), and both are great.
The Great Lakes region of HOD is currently being reorganized, (the previous coordinators threw in the towel), they only have the Autobahn event on the schedule, but it looks like they'll be offering more in the near future.
