I've been thinking of getting an after market skid plate for my MCS in advance of the winter weather. Has anyone here added this product to their vehicle and do you think it was worth it? My MCS is an everyday driver and I'm a little concerned about the reduced clearance I will encounter once there is snow on the ground. Any thoughts?

I would save your money on the skid plate and just get the power steering fan cover instead. It's cheaper and about 25 lbs lighter.

I bought a skid plate for my Cooper a number of months ago, and it's still in my hallway because my ramps are currently in another state thanks to my roommate. My only reservation with it was the weight: around 25 lbs, I think. As soon as a large plastic one is available (it AMAZES me that no one has developed this yet!), I'll be taking this one off (assuming I ever get to install it) and switching. I think having a skid plate is worth the peace of mind; the power steering fan isn't the only fragile-looking thing under there.

I added mine last year (and did a couple others for some Chicago area friends as well).

I am not sure if it really makes a difference, but I feel much better having it there. I did use my front spoiler as a snowplow last year getting out of my alley on a couple of mornings.

The 22 pounds or so of weight at the bottom of the car does not matter to me.
