Yes, I most certainly will!

My aunt and uncle have been featured in the Beacon Journal several times recently for their love of Jaguars and a home devoted to their car collection, so I'm going to try to get ahold of this reporter who, I believe, did both stories.

I may write to MC2 magazine and some other European car magazines. I was thinking perhaps even just asking for some coverage by local radio and TV, even if just to promote the charity fundraising aspect of the event.

I'll do my best to get on this. I have some time before it starts, but I'm coming into Finals week and other craziness so it may be a bit tough to get everything done. Will keep you all updated! If you have any ideas or suggestions, post them up!

Just curious- do we have an official press release written?

If not, I'm a reasonably capable writer and, with the help of a professor at Kent who was a newspaper editor, feel that I could likely write one.

I'll be speaking with my professor this week (a journalism/mass comm. professor) to try to gain some media attention for the event!

Who knows, maybe we'll get the New York Times there? haha Kidding!

Hallo from the DRAGON! This is Mowse!

Hey 22CooperS! Take that ball and run with it bro! It's one less thing for me to do (out of 1000) for this event. I contacted the papaers last year and we got a photo in the PD last year but pre event ink is better!! I'll still try to hit up the radio for the charity angle.

That works for me! As of tomorrow, I'll be in the process of writing a press release with the aid of a professor from my PR class.

I'll do my best and see what I can do! We'll get some attention. Going to play up the photo opportunity angle for the papers. Also, going to contact the editor of MC2. Even if they won't cover the event, perhaps we could get a writeup in the magazine from a local member!

Finally... my Communications degree comes in handy. haha

FYI, I believe IneedaBJ (aka, Anita, my girlfriend) called her contact at the PD on the day of the event last year and got the photographer. The bigger & better the press this year, all the much improvement!

Update:

Just wrote a rough draft of the press release and I'm continually scheming on how to get more attention for the event. I just sent a copy of this to the aforementioned professor (former newspaper editor... should know her stuff when it comes to press releases!).

I thought I should post a copy of my intended press release. Keep in mind, it is supposed to be dry, to the point and not contain any "fluff" or eloquence, though I wanted to make it fun! If there is any information that is incorrect or that I'm missing, feel free to pick it apart! If you don't like it, let me know. I'm trying to make this as effective as possible.

Mini Cooper Enthusiasts Uniting for a Big Cause

On June 6, 2009, over two-hundred Mini Cooper enthusiasts are expected to attend the Third Annual Pub Mini Meet at The Pub in Rocky River. The event will benefit Providence house, an organization devoted to aiding homeless women and children, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The meet will begin at 9:00AM and feature a parade, raffle, car show and the Beatles’ tribute band, Abbey Road, at 12:00PM.

One of the largest gatherings of Minis in the nation, the meet will feature cars from several surrounding states. With a parade of over two-hundred cars and an entire day of good food and good fun, the event also supports a noble cause. The event is free and open to the general public.

Here are my small edits/adds. Of course your version works, you'd just need to do the capitalization of "House" and maybe the clarification around the band's starting time (because you mention 9:00AM then 12:00PM in the same sentence which might confuse some people). The only other thing I might suggest (and we'd need to figure out where/how) is a web address that will link people to the flier for more information. I think if this event gets any bigger, Greg Z. may have to create a website to get the word out...

Nice work 22Cooper S and Thom

however PH only assists children. Not women. People would accuse me of hanging out there to meet girls if that were the case.

Please remove that from the script. You may wish to add my contact information for those who desire more detail about the event or PH.

Thanks, Thom! Great idea to clarify the times. Not entirely sure what happened with the capitalization error!

Mowse- I only suggested that they help women because, according to their website, they do. Upon further inspection, I was on the website for the Providence House in Brooklyn, NY! Good catch! Sorry!

I have yet to hear back from my professor. Once I get the go ahead, make the changes noted above, it will be sent out. If anyone would like to copy and paste the final product across the Internet (BMW forums, vwvortex.com, etc., maybe?), they're more than welcome to!

Update: For some reason, whether due to e-mail error or her forgetting about it, I haven't heard from my professor.

I feel comfortable making a few changes (such as the ones mentioned above). What does anyone think about contact info? Should we have Greg's e-mail at the very end of it?

OK, here's the press release that's going out today. Finally had my professor get back to me, so this is very well proofread and will be accompanied by a short paragraph. Hoping to convey that this event would be a GREAT photo-opportunity for the papers and a cool event for TV. I'm really hoping we can get some major coverage!

If you have an concerns about this press release, just let me know. Mneider1@kent.edu or 330-204-2417

Thanks!

Received one e-mail back from The Akron Beacon Journal. Nothing back yet from Fox 8 or WKYC, but going to send more out tomorrow to The Plain Dealer and others.

Is it just me, or is the MC2 Magazine site not working?? I wanted to get in touch with them. While it's too late to plug the event in the magazine, I was hoping to be able to write an article about the event to promote next years. I have a buddy who is going to school for photography who, I believe, will be coming with me and thought he could provide some great pictures for MC2. Let me know if anyone has any contacts at MC2!

I've sent info to MC2 for PUB 2009

but no response. I've emailed back and forth with Barry several times but I'm not quite sure about them sometimes. They did publish a photo and my article from 2008 and promished to list it but......

I have been calling and emailing various producers at WTAM and WHK to try and get a radio plug this week. It's a tough nut to crack with these guys.

I was just going to contact MC2 today, but that may be redundant.

Slightly off-topic, just received my new MC2 magazine today- is it a magazine or a pamphlet now!? Wondering if maybe the magazine isn't doing so well financially...

My aunt and uncle had been featured in the Beacon Journal with their Jag collection a few weeks ago, so I contacted that reporter. She forwarded the press release to the Beacon Journal's Entertainment reporter, so we'll see what comes from that.

Ideally, I'd like to see TV coverage of the event, so I'm going to call WKYC, Fox, Channel 5 and maybe some of the smaller ones (19 and whoever else exists). I feel like it's a cool event to cover, especially with the visual impact.

Also going to try to get in touch with Matt Patrick of WHLO 640... local talk show host. Seems to like fundraisers and charities... so why not?

If anyone else would like to help, please do! I don't think it would hurt to bombard local media with requests for coverage... this way they know it isn't simply a small event!

Going to have to bring the Z3 this time

Route 21 going North just before 76 in the left lane.

Pot hole - 1
My MINI's left front tire and rim -0

Glad I bought the road hazard warranty - Estimate is around $700.00 would get me a new wheel and tire. It did'nt mushroom the shock tower thank GOD.

I have only dodged about 150 of the little buggers this year so far.

Warranty company stated they would cover all costs, very cool

I got my pamphlet today (aka MC2)

and the PUB got stiffed for coverage! I sent the publisher the info months ago and he said he would get it in under the "upcoming events" column. Not that 3 days notice would help much

They listed the Perrysburgh British Car show though

Looking forward to seeing all the awesome minis in one place

We moved in the area from the East Coast over a year ago. It'll be fun to meet more Mini-folk!

What time is the "party" running till?

Can't even wait for tomorrow! Will have my girlfriend and friend with me... hoping they'll get the MINI bug!

Hoping my buddy from VA will show up with his R56, but not sure yet.

Should be a great day... just looked and it's supposed to be in the low 70s!
